I am so not ready for this day as I stayed up way too late. bad Vicki!!

Its looking like the winds are gonna be about half what they were yesterday. Birds that were following me while I was doing chores in other pens were workin pretty darn hard to stay upright when those gusts would go ripping through here. So, having that be over would really be a welcome break! So...I might be able to see if I can make some progress on photos!

we are offically now on day 21! We set 41 eggs total and are waiting on 13 eggs to hatch, the rest came out yesterday and last night!

At this point in time I have decided I will not be bringing in any new Marans eggs, chicks or adults. I will be working with what I currently have. I am hoping to take photos of the group of 7 on a weekly basis- especially of their combs. Grow out space will be at a preium areound here for awhile

Anybody interested in hatching out some test eggs from my Lil' Bill over my Splash girl and a couple of my Blue Copper girls?

I am looking for someone who is very dedicated to this breed of birds and that can cull birds that need to be culled vs. breeding them. I am also looking for details of hatch and how they progress as they mature, so looking for someone that will communicate with me openly and pretty frequently about them. Not looking for someone that wants to hatch them out and then give them away to friends or sell them for a quick buck, sorry, but I am just being honest.

No Charge for the eggs, only ask that shipping is covered.

Please PM or email me by Thursday at the latest. I will be collecting eggs from this week that will be sent out on Monday the 9th of January.


Note: Just for those that do not know these are project birds and will show some faults whatever they may be.....it could be a white feather, could be a "carnation comb" or "side sprigs", could be that none of them will show copper, could be that some may not have any shank feathering or one or two may have dark eyes....sky is the limit

, I just want to be very honest with everyone.

The only reason that I am letting these go is that I would like someone to work closely with and I also do not have the space nor the time to rear tons of juvenilles right now.

This is not a contest and please do not respond to this or even volunteer if you will be upset if I don't pick you to receive the eggs, I will mull this over for several days before chosing who gets them.
Simply just looking for someone who is into this breed for the long haul and someone that is willing to communicate openly for the betterment of this breed.

All 11 hatched with no problems, they are all very spunky, very active and very inquisitive. I will work on getting photos this morning. I don't think now after seeing them all dry that I have any blues, unless they are soooooo dark blue that they again look like Bill and appear black, time will tell. They are all pretty dark babies, meaning that they don't have alot of white on the face and many of them have dark bellies and chests. Couple have horn colored legs and feet, one has the rust colored head and the other has a rust colored head but the rust is sooooo dark on the head that you can barely tell it is rust colored, though there is a small brighter spot of color right next to its come that gives it away.

we hatched Andalusians, Welsummer and Lt Brown Leghorn- bantam this is the 1st hatch of the year for the kids 4-H projects

that's fantastic that you had such a great hatch! I'm gonna be doing some pencil pushing for sure over the subject of who will go with who for my first test matings and how many I have that are growing out that can go now that they've had another month and a half to grow still. I DID find something interesting tho...when I went to shut in my birds for the night, in one of my grow out pens where that blue copper girl is that I've posted pics of several times...well...there was a LOVELY egg right in the middle of the pen by the water dish. It was quite discolored from water getting on it, but the parts of the egg that was unaffected showed some NICE coloring. So, I will be watching like crazy. In there the majority of my birds are wyandottes and sussex...the only Marans in there are about 3 or 4 birchen girls and this one blue copper....SOOOO....I'm not gonna get too excited yet, but
