Then it sounds like you have good opportunity to be choosy then!

I prefer that any day, especially with the boys...since its harder to get nice males

If my friend shows up tomorrow it'll be cull day and some will be off the feed bill and in the freezer.

I have a flock of French Copper Black Marans. The oldest hen should be laying any day now. I have ended up with three roosters, and am looking for a good home for one of them. He is about 3-4 months old. Hasn't started crowing yet, but is beginning to get his copper saddle feathers and has a nice crest growing. This young flock (3 to 5 months old) - three hens (hopefully!) and three roosters (hopefully that number will be reduced to 2), are of the Jean Wade line. In addition to looking forward to chocolate colored eggs, I would like to produce some chicks.

I hear that! I've been working on my progress with culling and am thrilled to have about 40 going here in the next couple weeks or so!

Slick, ask your friend if he'd mind taking a drive to MO.?? I could use some serious culling help here too!

I like your dark boy, but realize, he won't help with color in the pullets much. What kind of comb does the one you don't like have? Is it Carnation, spriggy, or just ugly type?

So is one vaulted and one not? (You could post that pic as "One vaulted, one not"?????)

Two weeks until my new Silkie eggs arrive .... <sigh> (assuming the girls AND boy co-operate!)

I'm really lucky that I don't have any sprigs or carnations to date. It's like seven uneven points and just has no eye appeal. The backup has a little more color than the one I like best and much better comb than the green band.

Yes, one on the left has skull, on the right is vaulted. I don't try to breed towards the vaulted skulls after what happened to my one Blue Partridge pullet! Yes, I could put this pic over there too, glad you mentioned it!

You may want to hold onto both for a bit longer?? They do tend to change drastically as they mature!!! Like I've said before, too bad they are not like Mr. Potato Heads, you could interchange the parts to how you want them to look!

I have some that will help this type of hen, and others that will help another type. Hense, too many roos; most of which are just plain culls at this point!
