I have Silver Marans like this http://www.artandverse.com/marans.html and Silver based cuckoo Marans (the regular cuckoos not goldens) eggs going into lockdown tomorrow.
I have 3 silver sussex chicks with a BCM broody momma now and silkies in lockdown today. I know it is confusing LOL! I had to put everything on my phone alarm calender in order to keep it all straight when to set what, lockdown what, give the broody what, whats hatching when, etc etc. Lets just hope I entered all the info right and my phone doesn't totally die haha.



I'm guessing that the Silver Marans chicks should be yellow? It looks like they are from the pics on that website. Vicki, was your one Silver Marans fellow yellow as a chick?

That's what he states on his site, chicks are Buff/Yellow. Cool looking birds. Amost look like a pied Cuckoo?? Vicki, is that the guy that contacted you about your bird??

I've been waiting on pins and needles, since her BCM hatch mates started laying!!

My SO laughed b/c I was "so excited about an egg"

nope,the guy i contact was in the uk. although i am getting some chicks from the same place lenette got hers to work with.

haha....maybe, who knows at this point. I'm so tired I think my brain's gone into shut down for the night. yarg! Really frustrating day at work today.

I spoke to Don today, via e-mail. He said in about 2,000 chicks, he never had a Wheaten sport appear, so he had never tried to breed a sport to a Wheaten. He did say that Pip does sound like a Wheaten or maybe a cross. He says usually, the crossed (BCM x Wheaten) have that brownish looking fluff and feathering on the breast. Pip has neither, he is a very deep matte black. He hatched out looking like a BCM, albeit very dark, very little white on him, so I would have to think he is a cross? Wonder why those feathers decided to color in now?? Shoot, he'll be 2 years old in August.

He also has the whiteish/pink legs of a Wheatie too. Ah Pip...the enigma continues!
