Indeed...in particular the birchens seem to have more problems than the BCMs, but it is workable as long as the matings are mindful. That also is if the birds have strong enough qualities to want to work with. It also happens more in females than males.

The only way that I would work with a gypsy faced bird is if their other qualities are fantastic and they have something about them, whether it be egg color, body type, copper color or etc that other birds you have to pick from might be lacking. I, too, did not have much to work with until this year really....so it is nice to be able to be more choosy on what stays to be worked with. Just really give the gypsy girls a good look over and if all of the qualities you see on them are also on some of the other birds, then make your decision about what battles you do and don't want to take on.Well I know were the gypsy thing is coming from... I may sell her, now that I have CHOICES. I didn't have many choices when I started. I have maybe 15 pullets to pick from and I want to be REALLY picky this year. I have some more chicks growing up too. The 15 are just the 3+ months olds. What would be the point in WORKING with it? What is the advantage of having one if any?

I called my mom who is at work tonight to talk to her about it and she just lit up. I don't know why neither one of us thought about it before! I just hope I am able to connect with a place around here that I can talk to and see what all would be involved in the process and if indeed one would be a good fit for my dad.
