That is interesting. My RIR hens every so often lay an egg close to your rosy egg. I have to look close at the BR's egg because of that, but hers is light pink and if you look very, very close it is almost a speckled light pink...the color is not even in other words but the "specklng" is tiny, tiny. Hubby can't see it at all and I have to look close. I don't think the BR has ever laid anything but pale pink eggs.

Four days left for my turkeys! It has gone soooo slow. Hopefully we can get these 5 babies to hatch ok. Lockdown is tomorrow.

Interesting tidbit on egg color. I'm down to 2 golden comets in my free-range (well, ex-free-range) pen. These are their eggs for the last 3 days. Obviously the 3 on top were from one girl, but if you look close, they are partially speckled... one is speckled fairly evenly, one on the air cell end, and one on the pointy end. With the bottom 3, the two on the left are almost identical color, but look at the difference in the right egg. I had gotten those pretty rosy eggs before and always assumed they were from the same individual hen. Maybe they were some sort of "cycle" egg from each girl. (I had up to 10 at one time, darn predators took most of them)

Mine lay those rough eggs sometimes. I end up giving them some oyster shells just in case.

Mine lay those rough eggs sometimes. I end up giving them some oyster shells just in case.

They always have oyster shell available. Maybe that's why they are so darn tough to crack!

So....tomorrow is lockdown for my Welshies. I got sooooo much contradicting info about ducks that I am stressing like crazy. Tomorrow is day 25 and Friday day 28? I just hope I have this correct...finally.

Did you set them on a Friday, 4 weeks ago? Welshies should hatch on the same day of the week as you set them (or thereabouts, of course), 4 weeks later.

Guess what???? I have Call ducks due Friday too!! We will have lings together!!

Yeah, they were set on Friday the 24th. Here come the ducks! Yay! ....now to get over these nerves...

I've hatched a few ducks, but this is my first set of Call ducks. I'm still excited at this point. Nerves will come later in the week. hahaha
