March 2017! Hatch with us!

@orrpeople
I just want to say thank you to you for being such a wonderful; hatchalong host this month!
I've learned so much from you and from each of the ppl on this thread. I am very grateful!
I wish we could have class reunions every 6-12 months, report back on our chickens that hatched, pics and what not. (You Could take that as a hint if you felt so inclined)
You put in lots of hard work and still went about your own hard work at your home while devoting so much time to being here, helping others, encouraging...you Rock!
Thank you from the bottom of my (and my chickens') heart!

You are squeaking in just under the wire!!

(hah, I don't really think there is a rule for exact hatchalong dates, I just know that a lot of folks are Easter hatching, and this HAL was meant to kind of bridge the gap between March 1 and setting dates for Easter. ) All that said, I am excited for you!! I hope you have a great percentage!!
I have a mess of staggered hatches coming in April after I pretty much swore I was going to give the incubators a break...

I keep saying I'm turning off the bators too... then something happens and I throw in more eggs. BUT... all I have going now is a batch of lavender orpington eggs, due on April 8th. I'm not doing the Easter HAL. Like yeye, that thread is just way too cumbersome for me to even try to keep up with!

Ok, I snuck 2 RIR under the closest broody silkie. When I threw some scratch into the pen, there were 2 very different silkie babies that came running out to see what I threw in. One white, one black. So, out of the dozen eggs, I think we got 2 chicks. Tomorrow, if I get home early enough, I"m going to brave the wrath of 6 or 7 broody hens, to clear out the eggs.

I snuck the babies in around 5 pm. Those babies burrowed under, and all the broodies just said coooo, cooooo. The one that gained a few chicks just fluffed out her wings and settled in a little more comfortably. If they are still alive tomorrow, I'll sneak in a few more. I ABSOLUTELY love my silkies. They make the best mommas....

Oooh, good luck! We'll need pics. Stick your phone back in there and snap! LOL

My hatch over the weekend

chickies!!

@Cerise1924 I'm so happy that I'll get to read your hatch news in this hatchalong!!!
For some reason I find the sheer volume of posts in the next Easter hatchalong overwhelming.
I decided to skip that one which is comical since i'm not the one who decides whether any of my girls will go broody...I've set up the temptations in each possible coop (fake real eggs, plus fake wooden eggs plus a few egg shaped stones in a comfie quiet laying box) and they've garnered curiosity but no brooding yet.

What are you hatching tomorrow? How many eggs are locked down?
It's so exciting!!! Vicarious thrills here I come!

x2!

So my broody chocolate orpington Mocha's hatch is finally finished. Crazy girl kept collecting eggs from her sisters for a few days, so the stagger made it a mess over 4 days.

So including the 3 that I hatched in the incubator, and the one that I brought back to life yesterday, she now has 9 beautiful babies. I gave the last 2 to her this morning, so let's hope they are still alive when I get back home.
A couple pics from yesterday, she had them out in the sun.

They are all Chocolate or carrying chocolate -- looks like I got 3 full chocolate, 3 black, 2 mauve or splash, and 1 blue!

I hope your mamma hen has amazing success with her littles!! How many chicks can a broody typically care for? (Having not had a broody experience, and still not received those broody vibes you sent - they're probably on a PO truck that got rerouted to Florida first!) :D

I think I love your silkies too! They have been pretty entertaining this month (they must have read "It takes a village...") and I really hope they do a great job with their adopted chicks too! I said I'd never do bantams or silkies, and now I have bantams in the bator... silkies are probably next!

Ok, I have the phone number for the airport post office. I'm working on getting everything weighed. I have a BEAUTIFUL black silkie rooster I can throw in the box....
