Congrats!

I'm watching my first hatch get so big already, and my second hatch is right around the corner... I'm so excited. I'm trying to live through everyone else's hatches in the mean time.

I was too scared to do an eggtopsy on the quitter I took out at lock-down. Um... do eggtopsies smell? I have a very sensitive nose.

LoL, I can't believe I'm freaked out. I'm a nurse! But I really don't want to deal with bloody, yolky, baby birdie parts if they are going to smell bad too.

I have never had an eggotopsy smell. Even when they seem to have died several days before I open them up. I am only on my third hatch, but my first two were from shipped eggs that had traveled a LONG way, so I had a high percentage of losses. Stick some vicks sav up your nose first, it would block the smell. Just a thought. Sorry for the losses.

I felt the same way about eggtopies

but I did find it to be a great learning experience. I think that every little bit of info helps me with this these lovable things in my life called"chickens" I did not find it to smell any different then the incubator after the hatch is done

Good luck with your bath of chickies

Some eggtopsies do smell, it depends on the age.

One of mine did reek pretty bad, but it had died a long while before the others.
Odds are if it made it till just about pipping time, it hasn't been dead long and it won't really have a smell.

I know from experience.
I have a sensitive nose aswell as a sensitive stomach, not much fun to have on a farm!
