I always seem to miss chick days lol I never seen them at TSC. I have a hatchery a mile away though, so chick days for me could be 8 months a year

It’s going on right now here I’m in Northwest Ohio. Meyers is less than two hours so possible but right now chick days just makes more sense 15 miles versus almost two hours. Though I must admit I’m dying to go see it pretty sure the bf is scared take me

Did my candling (official lol) and only pulled 3/12 chicken and 2/10 duck (due the 23rd). None of the turkey were fertile which wasn’t surprising since she hadn’t been with a Tom for several weeks Worth a shot though, right? Next time should go better now that she’s got a man
I’ll candle the rest of the ducks (earlier batch) tomorrow. I didn’t want the temp to drop any lower for now.

My temps seem to have stabilized so I’m not going to crack the lid until it’s time to candle again. Fingers crossed all is well in there.

Because our weather was so cold weeks ago, our Governor declared a state of emergency. I didn't collect my duck eggs that week as it would have been too much effort, and they had been freezing/cracking because I couldn't get to them in time.

Nearly a week passed by (polar vortex week) until I decided to go throw their eggs out of their nest as I was sure they would all be cracked (the ducks NEVER sit on them). For some unknown reason, NONE were cracked. They were ALL VERY COLD (we had -32 deg with wind chill weather.) The ducks lay their eggs out in the open area of coop. Anyhow, brought them in to room temp for a day, and threw them in incubator for giggles and grins. ALL WERE FERTILE AND ALL HATCHED TODAY THESE DUCKS ARE AWESOME!! They are White Layers by Metzer. Hands down better than Khaki's with temperament, too. Eat out of my hand. My Khakis would never get that close (EXTREMELY SKITTISH).

Yep, I found duck eggs so much tougher and easier than chickens. Hatched 100% of my ducks first hatch, Have yet to hatch a chick yet this is attempt 3. 3rd times the charm, let's hope lol
