March Hatch-A-Long

My hatch is going...interestingly. My Appleyard egg provider apparently mixed up the eggs a bit and I ended up with some Rouen eggs as well as Appleyards
Oh well. Had a few pip on the wrong end. I caught the one in time to help it, but I didn’t catch the other one in time and it didn’t make it :( of course the one I didn’t catch in time was an Appleyard :(
3 hatched so far. 2 Rouens 1 Apple

My lot seems to be doing well in their outdoor brooder. The older two hatched 3/9 and other four on 3/23.

I just candled my 33 eggs for the last time tonight. I removed the 2 egg's that didn't move in there when I shined the light ,plus they looked less developed than the other 31 egg's. On the 11th going for lock-down, I will only have to take them out of the turner now, and lay them flat in there and wait for the hatch. My candling is done, and all of the air-cells in the 31 egg's looked like they should.

This weekend's hatch is probably over. There is one cemani cross egg that was supposed to hatch Saturday, but it hasn't yet, so I will probably pitch it. However, I had three porcelain d'uccles, one mille d'uccle, and one cemani cross hatch. The rest, minus the goose eggs, should hatch Friday. The geese eggs should hatch Saturday and then some next Friday. I don't really need goslings, but the geese are laying eggs, so I decided to put some eggs in.

After these hatch, I'm going to wash out the incubator really well before hatching some more sultans and hopefully some call ducks.

Hope you have a great hatch! :jumpy

You'll have a nice variety of hatchlings! Personally, I don't see how you can go wrong with goslings, too. ;)

Hopefully, the AC cross egg is just a bit behind and will hatch very soon. Best wishes for great hatches!

My incubator is still holding steady on the temp (100-F.) and humidity (41%). I took them out of the automatic turner last night and layed them flat down on paper towels in the bottom of the incubator. I haven't raised the humidity yet, because it's not yet time to do the lock-down. Hatching of the 31 egg's should start on Sunday. Yes I know, what am I going to do with all of these chick's if they all make it out of the egg's! :lau

That would be a great problem to have - too successful a hatch! :gigHope it's great and that you have lots of those little cottonballs on legs running around your brooder!

I'm using my other incubator this time that has a turner in it for this hatch, and I put more egg's in it than I did for my last try in my other incubator that I used the last time and only had one lonely little silkie hatch out of that batch.
