Day 20 came and went with nothing! I'm not going to worry---yet. I've not seen anything from the eggs since lockdown, I checked the eggs before I did lockdown and all looked good. I saw movement, veins and dark blobs, and the air sacs all were in the fat end of the eggs. Humidity has held at 70%, temp around 100. Never had any huge flucuations during days 1-18, never had any issues.

I am hoping for big improvements in the morning..I'm started to get really excited for all these babies...and nervous. I hope to have something to report in the morning!

I have four hatched!

All BO/EE mixes. They're mostly buff like their daddy. One looks like it has a darker stripe/spot on its head. Will have to wait until they're fluffed up to tell for sure.

So cute! I love that you know what the parents look like so you kind of know what to expect!

You all are going to think I am NUTS but.... how do I entertain these chicks?

I have them in a make shift brooder bin with a heat lamp and food and water and such. They are in my room, on a table across from my bed. They love to be talked to and like it when someone taps the side and sends them running to inspect. They also will all jump up and peep up a storm when they hear the theme song to Dr. Who (Guess what I have been watching every night for the past week in bed?) LOL

They go back to the farm in about 2 weeks, until then though our job is to keep them healthy. I feel like we are missing something though!

When we had ducklings we took them out of the brooder and let them follow the kids around the house a bit every day. Then we took them outside to follow the kids (About 10 of them) But we could trust the ducklings to follow the kids. I am not sure we could trust the chicks and trying to catch 22 chicks..... Our yard is not fenced in and is a common area for our neighborhood. The ducklings though always did great, got some bugs and such, and the neighborhood kids loved them. Not sure about chicks though...

I have a quick question.... I purchased eggs online and they should have been shipped the same day... today, but one of them will not be able to ship till tomarrow or Friday!

Should I wait the first eggs and put them all in togeather at the same time.....

or should I just put them in there on scedual (after 24 hours of settling time? right) and then do the other eggs as soon as I can like after 12 hours of settling time... This way they would be 1-3 days difference..... if this way I figure I will have to stil turn them manually for the difference of time 3-4 times a day but do you think the extra humidy for the hatch will effect them while they are this close in age? I would think being this close it would be fine... but I have ZERO experence with it

... but I am concerned about waiting too long with the other eggs before putting them in as they were the more expensive ones... any help would be appriciated!

All of my eggs have been shipped, but I only let mine sit for 8-12 hrs then set in the incubator.

I was planning on making a play area out of leftover hardware cloth for mine. Move it to different areas of the yard. I've heard of other people doing the same with wire kennels.

Hi all, I set 36 black copper maran on the first of march. These were shipped eggs and I candeled at day 10 pitched 14. I broke them all open and nothing was going on a few had blood rings. This is the first time I have tried candeling and I've been looking at all the charts online to try to tell wich ones should be pitched. I had a couple that had good aircells but no light could pass throght the liquid part it was solid balck. Does anyone know what this means?

Usually in dark eggs when their is a dark spot it means there is a chick, most likely those eggs are still good! Also if a dark egg "glows" when you candle it is usually a dead egg. so those "dark" eggs could be your next babies!
