What to do now?
Went to the grocery store earlier today. When I came home my hubby confessed to trying to "help" a chick hatch because he thought it had been pipped too long. He cracked the area around the air cell. One of the shell fragments tore the inner membrane a little bit, and it started bleeding. He immediately put it back in the incubator and has since left it alone. Yes, he now knows that when I say that they just need to be left alone, they really do just need to be left alone. Poor guy feels super bad. However, the chick is still alive (several hours later). Looking at it, I am wondering if it is starting to get shrink wrapped with all of the exposure to the air it has. Here is a photo. What do you guys think?

I also have another chick that pipped the wrong end. It looks like it hit a blood vessel when it did. It too, is still alive. Looks like the blood has been absorbed quite a bit. Didn't notice that it had pipped the wrong end until doing a mid-hatch incubator clean out. Have no idea how long it has been pipped because of that. Not sure if this one should get assistance, if it is another case of 'leave it alone.' Opinions?

And just to end on a high note, here are the 20 chicks that have successfully hatched so far! Marans, Barnevelders, and EEs.
