Didn't @casportpony say it was pretty straight forward to do it yourself? If that doesn't make you queasy, I would suggest that.
I’m not sure. Don’t they need like blood or more advanced testing or something??? I feel like it’s stupid not to send it in because I do need to know for sure but now the body is what? Like 2 days old? Day and a half? And by the time I ship it, probably even longer and by then it may be bad unless I pay for overnight. I could possibly drive it to either lab. They’re both about 2 hours away but that’s a lot of driving so idk.

The body is not to old to do it yourself, and unless it's warm, probably not too old for a lab either. I suggest you call the other labs the lady suggested and figure out what it takes to get it done. Do not delay, do it now and get him shipped off today.
Okay, thank you. That’s good to know. I will call. On the website of one it says “freshly dead animal” which I’m not sure he qualifies anymore but I could see. That lab is also slightly more.

He does need to be overnighted on ice, today, not tomorrow, or get in your car and drive there. It's only two hours, so just do it. Stop looking at the website, just call them and get it done. They prefer really fresh carcasses, but unless he's warm, I think they will be able to do it.

This is a copy and paste of something I posted years ago.

If it's Friday, unless you want to overnight for Saturday delivery, I would suggest shipping on Monday for Tuesday delivery. What you need to do, if you haven't already done so is put your bird in your refrigerator, NOT the freezer! Then you need to find a box and line it with Styrofoam (I use the 4'x8'x1" stuff from Home Depot). You can also get smaller pieces at an art store like Michael's, but is way more expensive. You'll also need at least one ice pack. Here are some pictures that I took of the last bird that I sent:

Box lined with foam on four sides and bottom. Seams of foam taped sealed.

Box, sides, bottom, and top.

Frozen ice pack in a ziplock baggie.

Brown paper on top of an ice pack.

Hen in ziplock baggie on top of the brown paper.

Brown paper on top of the hen.

Ice pack on top of the brown paper.

The lid on top of the brown paper.

Inside the box, you should also include a submission form in a ziplock baggie. Do not tell anyone at FedEx that you're shipping a dead animal... that seems to really worry them. Just make sure that nothing will leak.

Hope this helps!

Okay thank you. This is helpful. There was still some ice in the cooler. Not a ton, a lot had melted, but even the water was cold and his feet were cold so I really think he will be okay. :fl

I’m going to call the woman back and also the lab and I guess I’ll get ready to drive him cause I’m sure by the time I go find the foam insulation and a box and everything and get him shipped it will be about two hours anyway but I’ll see what they say when I call haha

Thank you @casportpony

The last 4 are pretty sad & I hate remembering him that way but they really show how handsome he truly was & show his coloration well so I’m including them anyway. Because even just a month ago (first couple pics) he still looked like a bit of a scraggly teenager 😂🤣🙈 and now he was finally looking like a handsome man and he got this :hit

RIP Red :hit
