Mass Chick Death- WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED???

So sorry about all the deaths, thats awful! :hugs

Were you using any heat lamps by any chance? If they were Teflon coated, the teflon would kill the birds this fast. Teflon is incredibly toxic.

So sorry for your loss. My friend gave her chickens yogurt one time & 30 mins later
3 of the chickens had died because they suffocated from the yogurt getting into their nostrils. I think I saw that you feed them yogurt????

Wow! That’s horrible.
I had been giving them small amounts of yogurt recently. I’m thinking neurotoxin now. Not so much from the yogurt but from the water leaking into the chick starter, creating some mold. Who knows, maybe the yogurt somehow contributed.

Do you happen to have pictures of these dogs? Would love to see them!! :D

Yes! Onto brighter things... here is our invaluable pack who helps caretake our farm.

@WestCoast Farm I just reviewed your first post. You said the chicks were 10 days old.
I had 6 day old chicks drop dead with the same kind of contorsion who all came from the same source. It was presumed that the parents were dewormed shortly before collecting the eggs to hatch. Any chance this could have happened to you? Did all the chicks come from the same source?

(2018 was a really bad year. I lost over 30 chicks that year from multiple causes.)

Ugh. Yes I’ve heard of that. I hadn’t dewormed and when I do, I toss the eggs for a few weeks after.

The chicks were hatched by me, from my own flocks. About six different breeds, all chicks randomly affected. No rhyme or reason to whom survived (except naturally many sexed cockerel chicks survived, lol).

Okay just checking :)
