MAY Hatch-Along!!!! Let's do this!!!

This weeks update. I have 20 some mor duck eggs hatching now, 20 some turkey chicks hatched. I have another 54 due next week.

Alright, I've been reading this thread and I'm wondering if the humidity should be 55% then at lockdown 70%? is that correct?

Hi ducklover700! Thanks for joining us! I've been keeping my humidity at about 55% and I *think* I'm going to go around 75% for hatch (that's what I remember reading but I don't have it with me). But this is my first time hatching, too, so I'm not an expert and could use some advice on lockdown humidity as well.

What does everyone else do for humidity at lockdown?

I was wondering if anyone could help me with my first lockdown??? I have 10 ducks in the bator and they are at day 27 tomorrow. They went into lockdown yesterday and I have seen no movement at all. Am I worrying to much?? I am just afraid that something is going to happen and I cant open the bator to find out!! Please any help of suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

Hi Foreverlovnlife! Thank you so much for joining us! How is it going? Any ducklings yet?

I can't give you much help unfortunately because this is my first time, too, but I don't think you probably need to be too worried about not seeing movement so close to the hatch date - they may just be pretty snug in there.

Let us know how it goes!

Thanks for replying! You're hatching out of Toadbriar's flock right? I just ordered eggs from her! They'll get here sometime next week, and I'll be starting up my own egg hatching process! I am so excited to see what the markings on the babes will look like!

I read that it can take 48-72 hours to hatch for ducks after internal pip. Some people drill a tiny hole in air cell after 48 hours or so if they are worried baby will run out of air.I only did that rather late in last group. Ducks take longer it said to get out of shells than chicks often. Everyone says you just have to decide whether to help or not. If you start to help and there is blood, stop. I read a lot of posts and websites on how or when to help. I ignored some and they didn't make it. I intervened 4 times, 2 made it. I have decided if they are making progress and sound the same and aren't weakening, to leave them along. If they seem to get stalled, weaken, or membrane seems tough to help in small increments every couple hours or so. More art than science
Thanks for your response! I've made the decision that I'll intervene if I need to, especially because these ducks most likely have super short bills and necks, since they're supposed to be SQ. Poor little babies! I'd be happy with lesser quality if it meant they suffered less during the hatch! But that's just me, since I don't plan on showing them. Anyway, I appreciate the encouragement from people here. I'm so nervous but excited too!

I think I have 2-or 3 internal pips on the ones in the Hatcher!! that were the late additions as a staggered hatch to the "big loss of 40+ ) eggs and only 3 live baby group, due to low temp/humidity, 3 power losses fiasco. I candled and think I saw movement in 3-4 of the 7. We shall see, they are due this weekend. One Hookbill egg, again looks like it has a huge aircell, and one Runner egg may not have lost enough... The porosity must really differ between the two breeds ...I may need to hatch them in separate incubators in the future.

and it occurs to me that Monday is a holiday, are you ok with tuesday ship ducklover700? or I could postpone 1 week - your call!

well, your ancona, really...

Do you think they'd get here alright if they were sent out on Tuesday? If so, then that's fine with me.

Hi all

I'm new to this site but wanted to join in. I'm from the UK and there doesn't seem to be many active duck forums over here so after reading this forum for the past few weeks I thought I'd join in

I am currently incubating 5 pekin eggs, 1 was infertile but I am happy with 5. They are due to hatch next Saturday, this is my first time hatching and I'm super excited. Depending on what sexes I get will depend on how many I keep, this is my first time owning ducks and I wanted to hatch my own to bond with from the very beginning.

Candling the eggs has been fun and I already know I will be a nervous wreck next weekend.
