MAY Hatch-Along!!!! Let's do this!!!

Oh my gosh, she's so tiny. have you named her yet? she's the cutest little thing!

Thank you, thank you! I'm so happy. I've wanted ducks my whole life and now I finally have one. As for the name, I haven't named it yet because I'm waiting to find out for sure if she is actually a "she." I started calling her a girl tonight, but my boyfriend insists she's a boy!

Once I'm able to determine the sex, I'll come up with a name. Right now I'm just so excited that s/he is here with us!

I put 1 egg in lockdown yesterday, the only 1 out of 7 from my girls that developed. 6 Silkies & 2 Ameracunas go on tomorrow. Then a few every day or so til the 5th & the last 3 on the 11th. Patiently awaiting babies

Well this morning woke up to 9 cute little ducklings. Have 4 more that have pipped and 6 more that are still just sitting there. I am pretty sure two of those are dead...they looked off at the last candling before lockdown.

Well I start lock down today on my duck eggs. I am really nervous on the outcome. I am also startin 7 call duck eggs and 3 Welsh Harlequin today as well.

I helped the last polish frizzle chick that had pipped. I hate making that decision but after 36 hours, no progress and day 23 I thought I had best try to help. Fortunately the outcome was a success. He is doing well and doesnt appear to have any challenges.

fowllover - Interesting. I'd love to see a picture. Thanks! Sorry about your stink bomb. Yuck! Did you have any warning?

I hope I don't have one! Yay on your eggs with the spike! So glad they seem to be alright. Yes, I have to see movement, too, or I don't know what to look for. I'm sure your lockdown will go well - keep us updated! So exciting!

nsampsel - Congratulations on your eggs!

I've never had a Silkie, but I'd like to have one just for fun. Let us know how your hatches go!

GoinQuackrrs - Thank you! Tonight is day 24, so I'll check for internal pips tonight. When do you raise humidity? As soon as you see an internal pip? Just the last 2 days? Or whenever you lock down?

Also, do any of you lower temp for the hatch? If you do, when do you start that?

diamond88 - Congratulations!!! She is absolutely adorable!

Ilovemyduckies - I hope all your eggs are actually still alive.

And if your broody wants to join in, she can - it's still May after all.

ducklover700 - I will definitely post pictures when they arrive! I'm so excited to see what colors hatch out! I know - it's been a long wait!

Congratulations on your mom's chicks! Tell me if a Muscovy hatches!

WillsC - Congratulations on your Muscovy ducklings!!!

In checking air cells last night, I looked at one of my eggs that has movement, but the duckling is much smaller than many of the others - lots of space left in there. What does that mean? Do you sometimes just get a tiny duckling? Or will it not make it? In that egg there is at least one little dark spot under the shell that's been there for a while (but wasn't there right at the beginning) that I think might be bacteria, but I don't know how to tell.

Looks like we don't have a muscovy :( We did however, hatch out five healthy chicks! woohoo!

Well, as of last night (day 10) we are down to 16 out of 24 call duck eggs. One still looks pretty iffy and I plan to candle again on day 15. For what I paid for the eggs I only need 3 ducklings to hatch to be "in the money" so to speak.

Congratulations to everyone with new hatchlings!!!

I have internal pips!

Kind of freaking out. I wasn't expecting to lock down until tomorrow, but I guess the ducklings had other ideas. I just removed the turner and added a sponge and spritzed the eggs. On one of the internal pips (I didn't candle all of them because I wanted to get them back in the incubator as soon as possible - should I have checked all of them?) I could hear it tapping on the shell.

Oh my goodness! I'm so excited and so worried! I hope everything goes okay. I hope they're alright since it's kind of early. How soon after internal pips usually is the actual pip?

ducklover700 - Oh well! Glad the other chicks are doing well!

WallabyofChaos - Congrats on your developing eggs!
