bummer , shipped eggs ?

No, they weren't shipped, from our own flock. Incubator conditions were good, but we had fertility problems with the standard/large fowl bantam crosses, which made up over 80% of the eggs. I candled them day 25 or 26 and found them pretty much all clear. The pure bantams made up most of our 15% hatch rate

Got only 1 standard x bantam. Surprised I even got him...

I took the plunge and bought 10 local French Black Copper Marans plus a few she called Americauna/Blue Amerilusions. I've never heard of Amerilusions before but one egg is blue, one is a very olive green and 2 are average green like my Easter Eggers lay.

I added them 2 days after my first eggs but I think they'll be alright. I'm so so excited, I've wanted these for a long time and never thought I'd find them in driving distance!

I'm going to focus on raising the Welsummers and French Black Copper Marans from now on, they are both beautiful and the eggs from the FBCMs are my favorite!

Do you mean Blue Andalusians? I hatched some americauna x blue andalusians last summer, they were super friendly and cute. here's some pics;

They were both roos. my dog got them though, so I never saw them fully mature.

That is a wonderful video--so clear! You are very skilled. I'm glad you were able to help the chick out. One chick in my last batch zipped at 2:30 AM, looked ready to burst out of the shell and was wobbling. I thought it was going to hatch in half an hour (I saw the feathers poking out as the chick worked) so I finally went to bed. By morning, it had died for some reason.
"Rebekah" is very cute

Thankyou, glad you liked it! The baby peep is doing fine, although the mother was really mean to it so I had to take it inside. Now it stays under my T-shirt, starts calling for mommy whenever I put her in the brooder. I have no idea how to get any sleep tonight

all the other peeps are out in the coop so this one is alone in the brooder until the next one hatches... At least this will be one crazy tame chicken as she grows up! haha

If your chick died that fast it probably would have died anyways. They can stay in the shell for more than 24 hours as long as they have externally pipped. This one wasn't making progress for 24 hours before I started assisting. If I had intervened any earlier (I did check the inner membrane and found it full of bloodveins at 18h after external pip) the chick would have bled out. As soon as I saw there was no more blood left in the membrane I started peeling it off and helped the little one out.

Well that did it! Humidity jumped to 72%. I opened one humidity plug, got it to 67% now. Lets see if I can hold it there.
My main bator is a Hova, my borrowed is the temperamental one....lol But I am learning it!
. You'll get it I found out that patience is the way for the innovator very slow to react to changes up or down darn things ,,, as for my 1588 hova that thing is set it and forget it I love it , it is well worth the extra few bucks if not for the stress limiting factor alone lol

OK, it is final, out of 42 eggs, 38 went into lockdown, and now 33 have hatched for 78.5%
I am going to be satisfied to just raise breeds I can find within driving distance.
Any guesses what this little beast is?
He looks like a chipmunk, the only one out of the whole batch that looks remotely this way.
Here is a link to the whole batch if you want to kill some time. I took a picture of every one.

Here were the eggs as they went into lockdown:
They are adorable! I think you should pair each chick to the egg they hatched from (ie: Chipmunk from the large green egg on the far right of the last row)!!!! Just kidding, I don't think we expect that, but it would be interesting to know

Here's the single lucky Silkie bantam x Black Sex-Link to hatch. Only one of 26 eggs of his kind to hatch...Interestingly, he has only 4 toes. Must not be enough Silkie.

Quinn: (5th chick, fifteen percent hatch rate, quin = five)

Think he's a rooster?
