I would not pay for anything. He had his chance to report the damage. If it were me I would be getting a police report the same day,and repair estimates in days. I would have notified my insurance the day it happened. I would not have any more to do with this person.Get a cost for the light if you still want to pay that.Sounds like a major scammer person to me.

what i learned after being rear ended by a college kid who only had use for bald tires in winter in slippery conditions.

1 you have to go to a body shop to get an estimate.

2 if he plans to use your insurance to pay for his damages the insurance will send out an adjuster to look at the damage. (in our case we used the kids insurance that hit us since he was at fault) He totalled out his car and did $3000 in damage to our expedition and got 3 tickets. so he will have hopefully learned to slow down and put decent tires on your vehicle maybe those higher insurance premiums will make him think twice.

3. you also have once you report the accident to the insurance you get a form from department of motor vehicles (we are in ny) and they want everything on the form with where the damage occured time of day direction your vehicle was travelling.....etc.

so looks like hes not gonna get away with filing a false claim somewhere its gonna be noticed the story doesnt add up.

I agree with others and wouldn't give him one red cent now. Any damage that may have been caused by your car will now be taken over by the damage he did. If you took pictures or anything the day that the initial incident occurred, I might offer to pay a nominal fee (around the $25 like someone else suggested). Otherwise I wouldn't do anything. I had a guy try something similar with me. My son opened my car door into another car and left a small ding in the other door. We exchanged information and I got the feeling he was going to try and get the whole door panel replaced on my insurance's dime thus causing my rates to go up. I took pictures of the whole panel, making sure to note the other existing dings and using my thumb as a scale to show the size of the ding my son caused. I called my insurance company right off and let them know I thought this guy was going to try and get the whole thing replaced and send them all the pictures. They told him that they would only pay for a portion of the replacement since the ding was such a small part of the damage already on the door. He decided he didn't really want the panel replaced after that.

I would toss him $25 or $50 bucks and call it even..(because of the damage his dog did..)
If he makes a fuss..ooh well.. not your problem.

Man that was hard to follow! I got that there is alot of drinking and pissy attitudes going around.
Id be looking for a non-partison witness who doesnt care about upsetting Mr Dimwatt. Get that person to sign an affidavit detailing the ORIGINAL damage and keep that on file.

Sorry.. sometimes I get jumbles up and it comes out wrong.

He wants to put the damage on his insurance, not mine. I have a perfect driving record and actually just signed something from my insurance agent saying since I've had no problems they are lowering my price.
When the car bumping happend he was ready to call the police and put it on my insurance but I guess saw the stunned look on my face and changed his mind.
I've personally told him..
Don't sit around and wait to get a estimate. We have the money now to fix it and I don't want to be hit up during a hard tim e
Well now that his car looks all crumpled I'm thinking he wants the deductable out me me.
My SO wants to give him $200 and be done with it. I'm not ready to pay that much as all our extra spending money is going to repainting our house and getting ready to sell it.
I told thhis guy not to wait around......

And I went to his house within the next day or so when his dog jumped on my car.
