I had a friend that bought 25 of their Cornish X;s and they kept dying and one day, a huge die off occurred. So my friend took the carcasses to U of I Vet and get some kind of test to see whats going on. It was incubator disease. That was last year and so far, we had no losses this year from them.

Sad thing is, that MM told my friend that they didnt have the problem and it came from her end, not theirs. She even have the paperwork from U of I to document and they didnt want to listen to her nor want any fax information sent to them about it.

I am not sure if this is an isolated event but no one really reports it and stick it to the MM or contact the BBB about their ethics and a red mark would make them wake up and smell the coffee and pay attention to the consumer's complaints.

I dont know if they got any bad referrences from BBB in their town.

It seems like 2 people that call can have two completely different experiences. Some might hear there's nothing that will be done and whatever happened was their fault. Yet another person can call and have MMH take full responsibility. Odd.... I think the BBB would love to hear about this.

I am convinced that my hatch has AE. All the symptoms are there, and they are getting worse, My greatest concern now is wether I should kill the flock and incinerate the remains and droppings before they are introduced to my excellent laying flock of barred rocks. I think this is going to be the best thing to do. Any thoughts on this.

Brett.

I wouldn't destroy anything until you had one tested, unless it isn't worth it financially.

I am just concerned that this will affect my rocks who are just getting into their prime, the financial loss for the chicks is minimal, just worried about my adults.

Just got new information. I will have infected birds tested early next week at local university. Will provide feedback asap.

Would love to hear what the verdict is. If it is something we can do on our end, I am all for it. McMurray has been more than generous with us, but I don't want this to be a perpetuating problem.

I would guess we would have a bigger problem here if it were highly contageous. We have about 40 chicks that we hatched out on our own, not vaccinated, in December, and they are thriving, along with 25 adult bantams and 16 older laying hens. I haven't been changing my clothes to feed the older MM chicks, but I am careful to disinfect everything with bleach before I use it on a new set of chicks. Our MM chicks are all isolated in different "rooms" so they are not in direct contact with our existing flock however. We have a MM brooder room out in the barn, a sick MM chick room (exercise room in house) and the "2nd order" in our utility room in the house. If this were a highly contagious problem, I think just having the same clothes on would spread it. I definitely won't be putting the MM chicks in with our healthy chicks any time soon. Also, the ones that weren't affected in the beginning, are doing fabulous, like you would expect a MM chick to do. Our Australorps, Red Stars, RIRs, White Rocks, EE Bantams and Andalusians are growing like weeds. We haven't a single problem with any of those breeds and they appear to be completely unaffected even though they are from the very same order that we had all the problems with in the beginning.
