Today I found myself holding another chick's head above concrete preparing myself for the *crack.* This is beginning to get old. I'm calling them again in a few days. And if they thought I was unreasonable last time, I'm gonna give them a real reason to tell me to calm down.

I ordered Crevecours, two males and 4 females. 4 died the next day after receiving, 3 died 3 days later, and two were sick.
I called for the refund, but they convinced me to take the replacements. What they don't tell you at first is that you can't get the replacements (unless it is the whole 25 minimum of course), unless you call back to order more chicks (25 min). So I ordered more crevecours. Same thing the second time around. Again I took the replacement chicks, and ordered 25 more. (I'm a glutton for punishment I guess). Same thing the third time around and I gave up on Crevecours. The last time I lost one in transit, 3 within two days, and 3 were sick. I gave up ordering the crevecours and I am sure glad I bought an incubator and I know about eggbid.com

My group of chicks from McMurray is having the same problems..... I am wondering if everyone with this issue is losing all their babies? About half of ours are affected and the other half seem ok at this point. They hatched on 2/29/08; shipped 3/1 and we got them 3/4; we lost 10 in the first 2 days. They have been inside with 90-95 temps, QuikChik in the water and Start&Grow feed (no exp date on the feed label). Our affected breeds are Buttercup, RC Brown Leghorn, GL Wyandotte, Delaware, Blue Andalusian, GL Polish and SL Polish. Does anyone have any that have survived this malady? Do the unaffected remain that way or are all my babies doomed? Thanks so much for any additional info.

I have a call in to the local Ag University so maybe I can get more info for us all.....

I am so very sorry for everyone's losses.

You all haven't told what you had for vaccines, some of them could be affecting the chicks.

A lot of the boxes and plastics from China are moldy and that could kill the chicks too, not to mention there is a lot of perfume (toxic chemicals)in cardboard now.

i know,
as i read all of these i am trying to find a common thread,,,i dont know if we are asking the right questions,,, yours are a good start,,,

Ours had the Marek's and the Coccidiosis vaccines.... I did talk to McMurray today to ask if these issues could be some type of delayed reaction to the vaccines and the lady I spoke with said that the vaccines would not cause any problems. She simply recommended that I add Terramycin to their water but I am not sure that adding antibiotics is the right thing to do.

The shipping box appeared to be in good condition... no dampness, not even under the straw mat and there was no unusual odor.... smelled like a cardboard box (well, it smelled like chickies too

WOW,I also saw several people on another website w/ sick McM chicks!! Are you all getting any answers from them?? I sure hope you guys send a few chicks off for testing that have been lost. They need to be adressing this problem NOW. Wonder how many others, who DON'T post online, are having this problem???

I agree. Some of their birds are sold for HUMAN comsumption. What if they make it to adulthood harboring whatever this disease is?

I wonder what it is like for one-day-old chicks to be shipped in a box. I know it is "how things are done" but I can't imagine it's not incredibly stressful on them.

Hmmm...:| After reading down through some of the posts, I don't like it. Two of mine have(jersey giant and a Dominique) started acting sick the last couple of days. They can walk around but seem unwilling to. If another chick bangs into them, the sick one with hop up, move out of the way, but then seemingly flop over and nestle down and go to sleep. It would seem normal, however that's all they do. I don't see them eating or drinking. I put them in a different brooder tonight. I don't know whether it's a infectious disease or a condition they were born with or caught while they were young. Any insight?
