So, FINALLY hubby and I got around to culling a 1yr old cock that went after our 3yr old. He was penned up immediately and awaited his “field trip“. We decided to do his full brother who did not produce well for me this year. I have SO. MANY. COCKERELS. this year! No shortage of nice replacements for next year. Anyways, when I compared the 2 brothers the ”Meanie” had noticeably larger testicles even though his full brother was much larger then him. Probably the increase in testosterone was the cause of his aggressive behavior? Maybe? Interesting find at least! I have a couple of his chicks growing out. They will be watched closely for any “cocky“ behavior.

He was gorgeous!! Too bad he was mean!! I’ve never opened up a chicken but the quail that I processed... the mean ones always had massive parts so I think there’s something to it for sure!

Gotta be something! He was very pretty! He was a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana. He was the only one I’ve ever had or heard of even that was mean! I was pretty bummed. But any aggression is not tolerated here. And they won’t be sent to auction for fear someone else’s kid will get hurt.

I have 2 I am keeping, the one above is Rick formerly "Pinky" His feathers are peach colored and blue tail feathers. Hard to see in this pic I think they call it porcelain color. He is an EE.
Below is Shane an AC mix.

I am keeping the pink because he has blue in him plus the EE egg colors. The AC I am keeping because i have other AC's. Neither are mean and they don't like me to hold them but they tolerate it.

That’s crazy! I had the exact same problem with my Welsummer! My husband put him down and I was shocked by how big his testicles were, so much so that I snapped a picture of them to my kids and captioned it with “I found the problem!” The strange thing was that he was tiny dressed, but he had huge parts!
Unfortunately his son is on the path to be too much like his father and will probably be soup later this year.

Oh wow that is odd! I always heard they were gentle haha and that’s totally understandable!! Especially if you have more replacements! I have some chicks growing out from my rooster that just recently passed and I am hoping they grow up to be nice. I think being broody raised will help too. I am pretty sure 2 of them are boys. I know for sure one is. 3 weeks old and already a bright red comb 😂🤣 I knew from day one with him though. Major wanderer 😂

Very interesting! I butchered a 13 week old EE cockerel this spring. One of his testicles was 3 times the size of the other! He wasn't aggressive toward me, but he was a total jerk to the pullets.
I’m thinking about butchering my bantam Cochin cockerel for this same reason but he is gorgeous and super sweet to me so I hate to do it :( but he just TERRORIZES my poor pullets lately :( I am going to try a few things first though and see if they help. :fl
