Its so hard when they are pretty but jerks! Terrorizing pullets is one thing. I had a cockerel who just lacked finesse with the ladies.

The one cock I kept from last year has been SO nice! He tolerates my 3yr old very well and is a gentle soul and the hens LOVE him! If I end up replacing him, he deserves a pet home. I do find some of my boys good homes if they deserve it! Funny story with him, when I first selected him to be over a few hens (he was in a bachelor pen) he literally stood in the middle of the girls frozen stiff.

The look on his face was “Somebody pinch me, this can’t be real, I must be dreaming!” The hens took to him very quickly and I had great fertility despite him not aggressively mating like the other 2 Cocks. He is the rooster in my avatar BTW. A Wheaten Ameraucana. Super nice guy!
