Minnesota!

Scandia I am a lil jealous abput the Biefelders! I almost got 12 for $90.00 last spring but never did. I should have though. They probably would have sent a few extra chicks.

I came home from working at 12 hour OT night shift to find the new 5qt waterer I had just put in the brooder had knocked over! All the water was gone, fortunately my brooder floor is angled a bit with a small gap so the water ran out. I refilled it and when input it back in there, the chicks (11 of them) drank and drank and drank. I felt terrible! Oh well, they are all thriving. Will be 4 weeks here in a few days and I'm thinking of moving them to the coop during the day next week when it will be in the 70's. Dang they grow fast!

Glad your chicks are ok. Accidents can happen :) Mine filled their waterer with pine shavings.

Manage to move the second broody successfully tonight. So I should see some chicks around April 30th, if Ralphie's rooster is doing his job.

I did rearrange a few things in the coop so I could make two separate broody quarters since the quail are in the broody coop. Flock was downright upset about it this morning, you never heard so much caterwauling. The rooster was trying to get the hens to lay in that doghouse. The hens were frantic to find a place to lay, never mind the 8 or so perfectly good nest boxes. Geesh!

The silkie is broody.....I could make another little corner for her......

Tonight I only collected 14 eggs which tells me that the ladies are finding alternate sources other than her nesting boxes.
One of my Swedish Flower hens raises a ruckus that you can hear a mile away when her box is not available.

Good morning all! Chickens have been enjoying this weather!

We burned a brush pile yesterday and cleaned up an old wood pile that had been rotting for many years. The girls were happy to pick any bugs that came out of the pile while we moved it to the fire :)

Minnesota advice needed! My chicks are 4 weeks. Many are mostly feathered and living in my garage with little to no supplemental heat. This week will be warm 60-70 days and 40-50 nights. I'd love to get these gals out to their coop. How do these temps seem to you guys for putting them out? Just during the day? Full time? No light? Light on at night?. I have a very safe double chain setup for the light so fire risk is significantly mitigated.

I'll be moving my squadron of chicks to the coop in a brooder area this weekend. They'll have two heat sources and should be fine.
The Jerseys will be 2 1/2 weeks old, Bielefelders 10 days old.
Nighttime temps are steadily on the rise.
