Miracle hatch...when do we help?

He was, but his sac was huge. He was so preemie...what, 4-5 days. Today is 30 days he should have been in the shell. The sac was absorbing, and he caught it with his "thumb" toenail. I found him in a pool of blood. I only left to take kids to piano lessons. I never want to do this again. I have eggs in the incubator, now. End of the month, another one. Then, several for the middle of the month next month. I do chickens. But, I wanted geese. This is ruff. You guys have been so helpful... I'm glad I'm not working this past few weeks... He'd never have made it this far. And, without the help of such good people as yourself, and JaeG, and others. Keep pulling for us. He seems determined.

Just thought of something...Must be a female. I didn't stress it to check. But, I've never seen a male of any species dig this hard... not to do anything.

(Ya'll know I'm joking, right?) Little levity. I'm tired. I almost took him to the emergency clinic last night at 1 am, but then I called, thank goodness, and they don't "do those kinds of animals". I guess we're on our own. I could already see cha-ching. The emergency vets are 30+ miles away. Man...this just is so unfair.:hit:hit:fl

Not even your fault. He was doing so well, I thught he'd be fine. He was put on a soft dishtowel, and sleeping, mostly. Then, he began being very active, and was moving carefully, all day. I ran out, and was gone too long. Two hours. My daughter had checked on him, but sometime afterwards, he bled...a lot. Your advice, and others has been right on. If the sac had been just a tiny bit smaller, even, maybe I could have removed it. It was huge. Smaller than when he initially hatched, but still... very large...or about the size of those I have seen on this site, which have been relatively small. He was just too early. We'll keep praying and working with him til he recovers, or... Beautiful little baby.

The little one made it. Nearly died, and I got wrapped up in premature grieving for him. We managed to cover the tear in the yolk sac. He must have been earlier than we thought. His hatch day was still 4 days off when he came out, and they can take another 2-3 days to complete the hatching, and absorbing yolk sac. Learned a lot since then. I tried to post video multiple times. He nearly bled to death when he tore the sac, and I found him lying in blood. Electrolytes...Pedialyte or Gatorade. I started with the Gatorade til I found my Pedialyte. I put it on a Q-Tip, and squeezed it into his mouth along side of his beak. It was another several days before he picked back up, and days after that before his sac was absorbed enough to dry out. We used Coband (the self adhesive sports wrap and a gauze bandage with Neosporin, not so much for the germs but to prevent it sticking). I read that if they are born early like this it is best not to let them scoot around. There is another page on this website and another woman gave that advice that commented on this thread. Put them in a coffee cup or bowl or something. He cut his yolk sac with his "thumb" nail. Pictures will be posted as soon as I can get to it. This was the toughest caretaking of a "fowl" we ever had. When we did one thing, there was another challenge. From the broken egg, to the early hatch with a HUGE yolk sac, to slicing that open and losing blood and yolk, and then days to deal with that. If you have this going on, confine that gosling! Wishing you all the best! And I promise pictures in the next few weeks. I have to find the thumb drive I downloaded them and the video on.

Anyone...is there some way to put a video on here? It won't let me do 30 seconds, even 15. Keeps saying the file is too big. I can't get it any smaller. Suggestions? Advice? Tell me HOW?
