Mixed breeds

I am hoping for a girl. What did the females look like when they got older?
If she's a female we can put her in with any of the flocks. But its a boy then we would have to make a flock of its own.

It is very hard to tell with mix breeds, but if he/she is showing such little feathering after 10 days of age, my money would be on you having a wee rooster there.

Right, I was asking Genesis because they had the same mix.

And comparing to our Sussex at the same age our rooster had about the same feathering as Lucky, while our hen had a lot more wing feathers and some tail feathers as well. Only time will tell.

Compared to our red sex links (Luckys mom) Lucky has same feathering around same age so who knows. It will be exciting to see.

I have a few Mixed breed cockerels that need homes in Northern CA.

Hatched 6 weeks ago, and hand-raised on organic soy-free feed. They are extremely friendly and hop into your lap. They are easy to catch while out and about and are comfortable around children and dogs.

This ad is for rehoming only as I can just as easily send them to freezercamp myself when they are big enough. I'm hoping that someone will appreciate them as the sweet pets they are and place them with a happy and healthy flock.

Cockerel #1: Katsu

This is a Ameraucana/Rhode Island Red cross. He is the largest of the three available birds, and the most active. He would make a very good rooster for a layer flock or large breed birds, and has the potential to produce Olive Egger offspring.

Cockerel #2: Frankie

He is a Mille Fleur D'Uccle cross based on the roosters in the parent flock and his obvious feathered feet and beard. He is my favorite of the three because of his sweet and social personality. He is very friendly and curious and loves to nap in my arms after taking treats from my hand. When I sit down on my stool in the coop he is usually the first to hop on my lap. His tail is coming in an iridescent black with gold lacing around the edge, and the black neck feathers seem to be getting a purple sheen. Since he is getting the shimmer at such a young age, he will probably be a very brightly iridescent bird! He might also develop the Mille Fleur mottling with his adult feathers in a few more months. He will likely remain somewhat smaller than the normal full size rooster which will leave him easy to hand for his whole life.

Cockerel #3: Bittie

This is a black polish crossed with a Mille Fleur D'Uccle rooster. He is a little shy, but happy to eat treats right out of my hand, and docile enough for a 5 year old child to pick him up and cuddle him. He is all black and has a really cute little tuft on his head from the polish side, and fabulously feathered feet from the D'Uccle. He too will stay a bit smaller than the average LF rooster since he was crossed with a bantam.

I love these babies but my property is small and we can really only keep one rooster, which we already have. :[

Lucky, now 3 weeks. Thinking "she" may be a "he" Only time will tell though :) Speckled Susses/Red Sex link. see how some of his fetehrs have a gold/red tint to them? pretty neat!

here are some mroe of my my mixed breeds

Leghorn/Speckled Sussex

Leghorn/Partridge silkie

Red sexlink/Partridge silkie

the silkie crosses have 5 toes, black blotches on their skin, darker beaks, feathered feet, beards and crests. one sexlink cross has 4 on one foot and 5 on the other. Will be interesting to see what they look like as they get older.

I am not sure what they are mixed with. They are either 1/2 white rock or lavender orpington.

How would i cross breed chickens.? Step by step please.? New here .

if you want specific breeds then you get a rooster and a hen of the breeds you want, put them in a breeding pen for a week i think then incubate the eggs. If you dont care about breeds then you just get different breeds of hens and rooster and they will breed by themselves, just collect and incubate eggs., unless you have broody hens who will do it for you.

Also if you want specific mixes, the hen has to have been away from any other roosters for 4 weeks minimum. Hens can host sperm from a rooster for 3 or more weeks so this makes it less likely to hatch undesired cross breeds.
