Mixed breeds

Pics
I had a hawk get a broody hen. I set her eggs under a broody game hen hoping she would hang around the few extra days to hatch them. She did not. The game hen was in my main coop and another hen decided to set on the abandoned eggs at night. It seems that if my wyandottes see/hears chicks they try to take them or go broody. Since it has been in the mid 90's they just hatched last night!

Congrats!!! Any of them Melvin's? PICS, PICS, PICS!!! Tomorrow is my day 18 lock down in the incubator (my first go at it). I am nervous as H*!!.

Wish me luck. I'll post pics when it's all over.

I must get picks. I have 5 from melvin. 3 black and 2 "chipmunk". Some are tiny some are full size. Since I think he is part sebright that may mean the bantam size are hens. Fun stuff crossing bantam and largefowl. Then the new ones hatching are half WCB polish.

I went to a farm and collected the eggs myself from different pens the lady had set up, because I couldn't wait to try out the bator. So I took what she had available which was not so great quality Marans, 1 Olive Egger (I really hope that one hatches), and Buff Orps in with a Black Orp roo. The Buff Orp pen had the largest rooster I have ever seen in my life. It actually scared me, I asked if he was a normal Black Orp (that thing looked like a black lab). Maybe that's reaching a bit, but you get the idea. She said no, and that he was a Ukranian strain, which I would know nothing about, but let me tell you if one of those chicks hatch black, I'm keeping it. For sure a conversation piece.
I did order Marans eggs off of here from CRFarms, but the box was damaged in transport, so we'll see.

heres some pics of the babies the 2 lavender/porcelain babies have different legs colors as well but have some really nice leg/foot feathers, the 2 silkie/d'uccles also have different leg coloring and one has a crest and one doesnt, all 4 have nice beards

Total cuteness! I have an EE/barred Rick cooking under my broody or 3. I think one was a quitter. 2 are RIR/BR mixes and 2 full BR's. I hope most hatch! Mixed breeds I hear are great producers! I'm hoping to get an EE with green eggs and the barred look. :D

Well two of my chicks survived the hatch. One died after hatching and the other didnt make it out of the shell. One is black and the other is colored just like a laced wyandotte. However I dont think the polish is the father because none show any fluff on the head.
