Yes, the outcome of this project is to create a darkskin naked neck Sumatra. It will take a few generations to get rid of the feathered legs and the five toes. I think they will be a neat looking bird. I will post pictures of the progress when they start laying better. Mark

What is your project? Silkie x D'Uccles? I'm curious because I'm getting 6 D'Uccles tomorrow that are already laying. I had thought of housing them with my Silkies and Seramas. Didn't know if crossing was physically possible.

We love our Modern Game x Bearded Belgian D'Anvers mixes! Our first was an accident at my Granddad's, so of course we saved her from the chop, soft hearted souls that we are!:
'Queeny'

And we bred her back to our pure Belgian cockerel, to produce this rather lovely 3/4 belge boy, 'Gandalf'.
Unfortunately we probably won't be breeding him as he has quite bad wry tail. Shame because look how gorgeous he is otherwise!

His sister, 'Frodo' (yeah, you can guess what our favourite films/books are! :p) showing off her long modern game neck and legs, and sleek feathers, but distinctly belgian body shape and tail.

My favourite thing about them is their beautiful faces, more 'sleek' than Belge, but a little softer than their Modern Game relatives.

I think the key is careful breeding when it comes to crosses - we thought about it and decided we could handle the extra chickens, before leaving her on eggs, since we knew we would never be able to find someone to give them to (let alone sell them to). And (As much as I'd love to see what they'd look like with a little more Belgian in the mix) we're not going to breed any more for a while - no room at the inn right now!

Hopefully we can expand soon, though!

Well, I did it! I put 2 Golden Necked and 1 Mille Fleur D'Uccle in with my 2 Serama roos. They didn't kill them so maybe..... The other 3 are young, and I'm not sure what's what with my Silkies yet. I have to say I was surprised that the D'Uccle hens weren't much bigger than my Seramas.

I am working on a bantam mix. Something feather legged, rosecombed and hopefully fibromelanotic (black bone and skin). It seems my mixed breed roo "Melvin" has silkie in his blood. He throwing 5 toes (he only has 4 but he must be missing the extra) and black skinned chicks.
