MJ's little flock

Something completely different......

I would need a lot more alcohol than this to live in Antarctica. At least two pours of wine a day. I'm not spending the rest of my life there so my body could take a little more alcohol for a year and recover.

What's up Aussie government?

It was a strange day for the hens.

This morning the rain was falling in a very constant, settled in way. On my third attempt at letting the hens out of their big coop and into the funrun, Janet mustered the determination to cross the threshold then she turned around and went back in! All four were very peaceful in the big coop and reluctant to get wet. I had to go to work today, so I left them in there for the first time ever.

I've just got home with a feeling of trepidation about how much pecking poor Ivy must've put up with, only to find them keen but not anxious to get out. No one is injured, no one is stressed, everyone is enjoying the usual playtime in the garden. It's like they bonded or something.

The big coop is actually quite big for four hens (3.7m2), although smaller than ideal. On the other hand, there are 5 perches, a platform and 2 tree stumps, all of which provide a few emergency escape routes for anyone being picked on.

I haven't found any eggs. Maybe an egg or two has been buried under the sawdust, maybe no eggs were laid.

Also, I'd left the pop door open on the funrun and caught a full sized magpie! It had no trouble flying out once I'd opened the human doors.

I feel sorry for the hens because it's almost time for them to have dinner and go back in their big coop for the night
I actually locked everyone in the complex yesterday so they could reacquaint themselves with Phyllis as she was off of the nest finally. It seemed to go very well. I think a little confined time can help them relate better with each other.

I can see what they are trying to achieve but they are coming across as real wowzers. 😕

I'm not much into alcohol but I'd need to bring lots of chocolate!

Yes, I have to agree. And you could eat a ton of chocolate and still lose weight! 😲
The ABC story named a Mr Ellis who leveraged health guidelines of 10 drinks/week. It's not government. It's one dimwit. Sounds like he needs to adapt instead of requiring everyone else to adapt. He's probably wanting to be able to say he cleaned up the AAD so he can be promoted

They seem a more cohesive group today. Ivy laying again may also be a factor. Needless to say, the whole tribe were super keen to get into the funrun this morning. And the magpie has come back twice to check if the pop door's open :gig

I've checked border restrictions and I can move freely between Tassie and SA without quarantining. That's subject to change at a moment's notice of course. I'll jump onto the airline's websites and see if there's a direct flight. The funeral is Tuesday. I need to check whether there will be a seat for me at the service. I suspect there are no restrictions on crowds at funerals in Tassie but need to confirm.

Wine is migraine inducing for me but that much snow alone would put me off ever living there. 🤣

I agree. Mine really appreciate the run after a day or so confined to the coop. I've also found they ALL seem to appreciate the restrictions imposed by the fence. They have plenty of room & they seem to feel safer & more content. @ least they're all behaving!

I'm glad that you can get there. I am sure it will be good for you to go. Hopefully you can get back as well. Be certain to get Covid trip insurance just in case.
