Pretty is core selection criteria! The austerity ware aren't prettily decorated but very beautiful in form and I like to reflect on the hardships experienced by folks in the postwar period. Rationing went on for aaaaages after the end of WW2.

Yes. Both my parents went through the war & my mum talks of her school frocks being made from flour sacks.

My dad flew troops in & out of PNG. It traumatised him. Flew perfectly strong, healthy young men in, brought shattered bodies home. Dad lost one brother up north but my nan had all 4 of her boys on the battlefield. I can't imagine the worry.

I'm very sorry your dad was put through all of that.

Our family has its war heroes too. Two uncles and a cousin with ptsd.

My father was in the Navy during part of WW2. He hardly ever talked about it.
My Uncle was in the International Brigade here in Spain fighting Franco. He probably knew the area I live in. The International Brigade retreated into these mountains trying to get to France.
