MJ's little flock

Good evening everyone 😊

I'm doing good, just tired of being trapped like everyone else that not essential 😞
I still have paperwork to do and keeping in touch with the families, and of course I have lots to do here.

How are things going for you 😊 ?
I think well-being is essential. Can you take some walks to gain a sense of freedom?

I'm lucky for many reasons. I'm used to working at home and my work is satisfying. I live near a beautiful beach for walks. I have lots of friends and family near and far, and we're all checking in on one another.

On the downside, Janet's moulting too. The henhouse was littered with her feathers this morning. And she's not laying at present. So that's all four not laying. Peggy stopped when she went broody and Ivy hasn't started yet. Also, I let the fodder store person talk me into trying a new type of pellet and only Ivy eats it. I suppose the others might be off their food from moulting and broodiness.

Ivy is my great hope for an egg or two sometime soon. I had to buy eggs yesterday! I'm very grateful to the unknown chickens who laid them but it didn't feel right. I'm used to eggs that have names written on them.

Not a chance. She is very skittish. I can touch her beak and if I'm quick I can bum shove her out of the way. Judging from her general reaction to the prospect of physical contact one might have though I had some awful contagious disease.
She is social distancing. Very public spirited of her.

I know right? My girls have not layed since the end of March, and even then it was only Alice for a few weeks . We had to buy eggs last week and I felt so guilty...

I read a lot of concern about chickens not laying. Don't people just not eat eggs when the hens are not laying?
I don't eat cherries or pomegranates for examples when they are not in season.
Eating seasonally produced products in the season is something I think people should start thinking about. I know we are used to getting out of season produce through imports and intensive growing conditions but maybe we should be reviewing the wisdom of this.
