I tried for more chicken selfies tonight. Ivy obligingly tapped the shutter button twice but I guess it's not good at recognising the tap of a beak as no photos were taken despite her stirling efforts.

Catalonia is heavily dependent on tourism. It's been wiped out basically.
The area in which I live has a high percentage of arts related employment. Just in the local village here there are 3 major circus groups. Lots of people make additional income from the fairs here that run from March through to early winter. Every village has a weekend fair.
I do not know a single person under 25 here that has a full time job paying a living wage.
There are 9 Cafes/restaurants in my local village which has a population of around 2000.
Fortunately for me and others that live in the area agriculture even in allotment standard is embedded in the culture. Everyone I know in these mountains grows food and/or keeps animals. Most small holdings keep chickens and have for centuries, but the chicken keeping model is very different to that of the USA promoted on this site.
As is often pointed out here, while the virus will kill some people the politicians will kill a lot more.
It's a complete mess.

There is an interesting epidemiological experiment that has accidentally occurred. Sweden took a completely different tact to combatting the virus than either Norway or Finland did. I believe the Swedes may have been right but we will know shortly. Stockholm is very close to achieving herd immunity status now. They restricted access to vulnerable people, elderly, etc. But did not shelter in place. They let life go on. The initial data is promising and we will have two other similar populations with which to compare the strategy and end results. Hopefully we can learn something.

I think there are a number of factors that have and will influence the eventual outcome of Covid-19.
The Swedes trust their politicians broadly speaking and they get a more competent selection. They also have a first class well funded health care system.
Cuba is also very interesting but of course not well reported.
New Zealand has been a good example of a competant and well liked politician going for early lockdown rather then prevaricating and it looks like it has worked.
Despite the adverse press China can and did adopt a strategy and because of the nature of China's social and political structure, were able to make a full lockdown work.
The virus isn't any worse in the UK, Spain, Italy and the USA; you can't say the same for the politicians or the state of the health services.

Good morning folks

Having spent way too many years inside the government and understanding how decisions are made, makes me skeptical that the right decision will ever be made. I really want to see the outcome from those governments that took a different path.

Yes! I too am interested to see how Sweden comes out of this. They took a less hysterical approach than just about anywhere & so far seem to have done well.

Their healthcare provision is amazing! Very high taxes in Sweden, very good social services.
