I don't earn a fortune compared to others with my expertise, so big expenses always sit on the waitlist for a loooong time. This chicken run project almost has cobwebs haha

Actually it's a blessing in disguise because I get such a lot of time to tweak my plans. It was only yesterday I thought of the U shape and already I know it's going to be such a valuable feature as the years pass and the flock goes through its changes.

Yes. And you have the clear space to do it too! Such a bonus! I have to work around other things that are already in place & it's not always optimal. I do however have well established plants , shrubs & trees in the run , so that is a bonus!

On one hand, I'm grateful for the blank slate Dad left. On the other, I do wish for trees and shrubs.

Now that the hens are beginning to roam beyond the chicken yard, they've discovered the cave-like atmosphere underneath the bottlebrush. They think it's very, very nice under there. Cool. Lots of bugs. Thick, thick canopy. And MJ can't get under there!

She's Blossom and she's shared my house since May 2019.

I can't explain why sitting between knife and fork is the right decision for her, but from the frequency with which she does it, it must be something that feels good. Funny little thing

Do you have one of these walking sticks? Folds to a stck, opens to a seat. Might be a handy thing for you.

I've never seen one like that , I just have a regular cane.

I don't do much of any other sort of walking these days. I used to walk or bicycle a lot not that many years ago. I am still a fast walker if I'm going from A to B but I get to notice much more by just meandering along.

I so love to go walking, it helps to clear my mind B on always calls my walking "a mall walk " because I walk fast, or used too anyway.

It's been slightly worrying because the fencing is not adequate for keeping dogs out, but I haven't been visited by a dog for three years. So, I'm letting them out of the yard when I'm there to watch over them.

In any case, their yard is huge with lots of room for running around.

That is very cool. I'm glad they are gaining more space to enjoy. You are a good rooster.

That is my experience too. The Chicken Palace has 2 covered runs and 2 pasture runs - all connected by little chicken doors - it is quite a maze.
When I am around I open the people door onto the field and let them wander around. Normally they make a B-line for my shrubs and dig up all the mulch then they wander around in the field but stay close to the Chicken Palace walls. And then they come back in and race around their maze checking out their favorite spots in the Palace. I am not so confident of the Little Princesses yet, but they are almost one flock now and so I think they will follow the big Princesses to come back home.

You have created a super environment for them. They are so lucky to have you.
