I'm still in Quandamooka country ~ Noonoonucle country, Kath Walker country~ but I am very conflicted about the whole Indigenous thing because I think
both sides are lieing! There were atrocities on both sides. Both sides abused children ~ though for different reasons. I have a written account from a relative, one of the 1st white fellas around the Mackay region, who records in grusome detail an attack on his family hut by the local Aboriginals ~ unprovoked. We have become unbalanced in our understanding of history. The truth lies somewhere in the middle, not to the left & not to the right. I have cousins who spent their whole lives @ Bamaga & Kowanyama & they present a very different picture of attitudes than politics dictates. I prefer to stay with the art. The art is what it is & stands or falls on its merits alone.
And being the terribly politically incorrect person I am I see parallels with so many other countries. Being a displaced Scot or Irish doesn't mean you get to go back & claim the traditional homelands or ancient sacred sites ~ & both places are littered with them. Holding on to old grieviences benefits no~one.
Sorry for ranting on your thread, MJ. Abandoning truth for political correctness makes me wild.
