MJ's little flock

Have you seen Dr Mark yet?
Just arrived and in the waiting room.

She doesn't look too good in the photo, but she had a good day. I'd say she's at 55%.

But she's lost another 100 grams, which is a lot when she only had 1000 to start with.

We're back from the vet.

Lorna's infection has harmed her liver, but she'll recover if she's crop fed.

Soooo I've had a lesson and I'm fully equipped with powdered food (Wombaroo), syringes, and a strange needle.

Each meal has to have a milk thistle capsule added to it. 4 meals daily until the 27th, then see how she goes.

She's to be weighed daily until she holds or gains weight without being fed. If her weight drops again, we restart the crop feeding.

You’re an awesome chicken mum. :hugs

That's a case where having a vet really makes a difference, as it's certainly not a diagnosis most chicken owners would be able to make on their own! I'm curious to know what is the powdered food made of ? Four times a day is a lot. Will you be able to make it fit in your schedule ?

I really hope it helps her. She is such a pretty pullet, and it's especially sad to see them unwell when they are so young.

Definitely. It's one thing to have a good vet on hand, but it's another to go through all this and take such care with both the pullets and the red marauders.

It's surprising how often that happens. It's also surprising how often he needs images before knowing what's really wrong.

Here are a couple of photos for you.

If you want some but can't find it, let me know and I'll send a box to you. However, I'm thinking you should be able to buy it from their website.

They sell nutritionally precise foods for a range of animals.

I'm on holiday until January 23 (I still have a little work to do but not much), so I have almost no professional commitments right now. It should be easy to take care of her.

it's especially sad to see them unwell when they are so young.

It's been hard emotional work, especially as she's my favourite. But I have a lot of resilience so I'll be fine. I look forward to her thriving again and the worry diminishing.

You're both very generous. I'm sure you'd both do the same.

Snowy is in broody jail. As much as I hate broody jail, I am concerned about how little she is eating. She is noticeably lighter when I pick her up. She has day release; as Nyssa has stopped laying again for the summer, I’ve shut off the nests. She’s spending the night in the bathroom perched on a brick. Hopefully it will only take a couple of nights.
Do you weigh them Lozzy?

That's a hard road you've just been stood on.:hugs
