MN - Twin Cities central - BYC meet and greet potluck & swap 01/17/09

Hello, Great idea! I tried sending a PM but don't think it worked. Are you originally from C.H. I grew up there and graduated from CHHS in 1965 but left for the country right after. I just can't stand city life! We lived on 40th Ave. & Madison since 1955 and the house is still owned by my sister (she's a city girl). We have lived in the country almost continually since and have lived in rural Mil lacs county for the last 18 years.
I retired this year and built a coop/barn to keep myself busy. We have a nice flock of free range meat birds and will add hogs this summer. Check out my BYC web page(s):

I will try to make it to your swap. Is anyone interested in buff orpington roos? Looking forward to meeting you. Stan
PS send me your address in a PM

I have never had button quail, do they get along with bantam size chickens? Uh oh i may have just placed one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel if i was to come home with some of those lol.

Well, they ARE! I started with 4. I have over 10 times that many now. Oy. And they're all pretty so I want one of each colour and.. and!!!

Hopefully I'll acquire a pair of seramas at the meeting and be able to distract myself with those. Now that the hens are setting, I'll have less eggs while they raise the babies. Better for the hens, better for my sanity..

I don't know.. The Coturnix probably would, though

They're a little smaller than a banty. The buttons might get stepped on. Though you could always try it and find out

My poor coturnix jump out of it's cage when I was feeding it, and into my chicken run which is next to their pen, and the poor thing was picked up by my chicken and slung around. I don't know if I would put them in with chickens. It was okay, but it did take a beating.

My bantams are not to nice to new additions, I had 2 ameraucana hens standard size in with them last winter to help keep them warm and those poor girls were put thru the ringer for weeks before they finally accepted them so i probably wouldn't try it with tiny little quail. Spooky here are some pics of the pair that is left, you have your choice of what rooster you want.
