Hi there

I have a new flock of 8 hens, all having lost feathers or only have those soft under feathers left in the same spot and nowhere else- all on their "lower back" or base of the tail feathers. I've worked on mite control, given them extra calcium, and sprayed that stuff that's supposed to keep them from pecking. It doesn't seem to be getting any better or any worse, over the course of a few months. They seem healthy and happy and lay just fine. The buffs seem to not have it as bad. I haven't caught them pecking but I don't keep a constant eye on them. Anyone else have this problem or any suggestions? Thanks!

If you have a rooster then it's because of mounting. You can always leave him with them and keep an eye out too make sure that none of your hens backs are bleeding. The ways I

know you can fix it is getting rid of the roo, separating him or getting your girls some saddles. I don't have any good pictures, but you can see one of my hens with a colorful saddle on her back to the right of the screen.
