Mosaic Chickens!

They were developed from imperfect Ayam Cemani chickens. That is, the ones with white leakage. Then selectively bred to become what we see in the photos. Mine are from Goldfeather Farms. I occasionally sell locally in Iowa, but don't ship as of yet. Their size and eggs are like that of the Ayam Cemani

Do all Mosaic chicken has the lovely turquoise earlob and skin?

Here’s my little one, looking more like a grownup. He’s right at 3 months and a week. Tons of purple, blue, and green.

Blue’s tail feathers are coming in quite nicely. The camera doesn’t pick up the iridescence of his ridiculously shiny feathers. He’s also SUPER cuddly. Still doesn’t know how to chicken. Still afraid of the dark. Oh well...

I bought some mosaic eggs from one of Gold Feathers Farm auctions. They are day 8 in the incubator and looking great so far. I paid $20.00 for 6 eggs and $15.00 for shipping. I will say without a doubt they by far exceeded my expectations with the quality of shipment. Not a single egg was cracked and all air cells were intact! I added the photos of their packaging.

I’d also like to add that I received eggs from a different breeder as well. She shipped hers like everyone else’s I’ve ever gotten. Each egg bubbled wrapped and placed into a egg carton and securely placed in the box with stuff packed in to hold the cartons in place. Every single egg from that box had a detached air cell. So now at my cost when I get shipped eggs I will request they be shipped in the egg foam shippers. If that breeder won’t then I won’t order my eggs thru them.

What is your distance from each of the shippers? I received eggs from Gold Feather Farms too. Almost all had detached air cells and none hatched. Packing was perfect, but I think the distance was just too far.

There is a seller on eBay that sells mosaic eggs. Not too pricey
He goes into much detail about their origins and breeding and care. May be worth looking into. I'm not ready to start hatching for another couple of months otherwise I would be bidding.

Hi All... I just acquired 2 very different looking roos, about 4mos old and they are already large birds. I've also acquired 4 eggs that we're just out into the Bator. I'm looking for standards in the roos and don't really find any.
I'm partial to the darker one, myself. Neither have the blue earlobe, it's more purple...and their skin is melanistic like the Ayums...am I missing something?

You knew it was bound to happen and I'm honestly surprised a thread doesn't already exist, so...let's talk about these Mosaics from Gold Feather Farms!

I realize many of you think they're a fad, and that's okay. I, personally, think that the chickens are gorgeous and I'm excited to have them in my flock! Anyone else? I got fortunate and won my six in a FB chicken raffle so maybe I'm in a different position for not being out a ton of money if they aren't what I expect, but so far, they're fabulous eye candy and some of the most beautiful chicks I've seen.

Jury is still out on these kids vs boys or girls but I do kinda suspect that I'm looking at 4 boys out of 6 chicks. It's still early though (I think they're about 3 weeks old now) and fortunately I have a nearby friend who picked some up too, so we may trade a bit, if need be.
