Most humane way to put a chick down?

isnt this the same thing they used to give people that were going under the knife or in labor? it worked then and a few people on here can relate to how it works.

Getting either when my son was born was one of the most horrible experiences I've had in my life! I can still remember the fear and panic 40 years later!

Listen there is no perfect way to kill a suffering animal and I'm not endorsing it like I said everyone has to do it the way they feel comfortable with and hopefully as painless to the animal as possible. The ether is fast it puts the bird to sleep and then it stops breathing shortly after there is no struggle if there was I wouldn't do it,but the previous post that freezes the bird is a horrible way,too make the bird suffer like that is not right.

ok, my mother had ether with her babies. she said the after effects were awful. when she woke up. as far as getting it she says they told her to count to ten and she got to 3. the room was spinning then nothing. it was after she woke that she had burps where she could taste it and it stayed in the system for a long time. now, i have no problem using my hatchet, except for the fact if i dont get a clean cut the first time. and it takes a while for the flopping to stop. so i will try the ether and see if it might be more gentle. not on me, on the bird.

Freeze, car exhaust....omg. Never! An ax sounds most humane to me. Or the bb gun but I only have a shot gun and .38. You'd blow the poor thing appart. I am glad that for most of us it is not eqsy to kill because for too many people it seems to be like changing socks.

I think many are confusing killing an animal humanely with killing an animal in a way that is not messy and offensive to the soft hearted person tasked with the killing. To me humane means death as instantly and painlessly as possible which I believe severing the head or an air gun shot to the head to be the fastest though obviously a little bloody. Freezing, drowning, gassing with exhaust or ether I believe will all take time and cause the animal to struggle for life. Kill them however you like but just because it is easier on your eyes doesn't mean it is easier on the chick.

Changing socks? OMG, we all have hearts for these creatures or we wouldn't be here. This is not easy for anyone of us. I've used the exhaust on non native invasive baby birds because it was explained to me by a Conservation group as being one of the most humane ways. There is no struggling. They go straight to sleep. I was just giving an option of putting one to sleep that might help another person who couldn't stand blood.

Not humane = lacking humanity, kindness, compassion. We are all trying to end the misery for the suffering. To me, it's really about what the person can live with after the incident. The suffering ends for one but the action could cause lingering suffering for us. I believe it's about using the method that you feel most comfortable with and that we are all being humane because of the thought put into what we have to do.

I'm not trying to offend anyone. Honestly I was just very shocked to read that. It reminded me of the nazis. (Not saying your like that).
