Please don't be so hard on yourself. You made the effort. You have the battle scars. As long as you improved a few skills along the way, you accomplished (or will accomplish after you heal) what you set out to do!

I built my coop from scratch, with no plans, only a vision. I probably should have had my eyes checked before I started. Although the coop turned out OK, there were more than a few times I had to ask myself what I was thinking! The run looks pretty shabby, but it's secure. As others have posted, the chickens don't really care.

The best part of all though - - getting that FIRST EGG! That's what makes it ALL worthwhile.

When I got my rooster, he came from a home with a VERY nice coop. Mine was less than wonderful and when he went up the ramp for the first time, he stopped, looked in and then looked around at me with a look on his face that said, clear as day:

"THIS is where you expect me to live? Really?"

He did get over it after a couple of weeks but I had to remind him several times that his previous owner was willing to give him up for rooster stew.

Look at the plus side of it all. The pleasure of self-accomplishment,the gaining of experience(its the journey not the destination), the earning of wisdom(which comes from mistakes and you share those mistakes with others)

That's not that bad at all! I had visions of something much worse from your description. You may be learning, and you will make mistakes, but you're starting from a good starting line judging from this effort. I bet your chickies end up eventually with an "eggmansion".
