My "A" Frame Chicken Tractor of Shame

Quote:
Well, it's certainly in *much* better shape than it was on Monday. No joke, I was screwing any bit of plywood I could find over the openings to make it secure for the babies. No raccoon would dare get near it for fear of being squashed by a piece of falling lumber.

The plywood is cheap and crappy, but it was free. I figure that the wood will hold up pretty well if I put enough exterior-grade enamel paint on it. Metal flashing or roof shingles should help with the waterproofing, too. Maybe when the BRs get big enough to kick some RIR/Welsummer butt, I can use it for a chicken jail/ broody house/ grazing pen.

Well I think its GREAT!

I'm kinda disappointed. I was thinking it was going to be funny or something. I think that's a perfectly nice coop.

Haha I know the feeling. My coop has been half finished for about 3 years now LOL. I also found out that using cheap wood is not a good idea. The door isnt even very functional. Hey but it works alright. And like someone said - The chickens dont care. As long as they have a place to roost at night LOL Um and Yours isnt even bad anyway! LOL Im embarrassed of mine LOL

I really should have taken pictures of it throughout the whole process. I was actually reluctant to photograph the early stages, as if the ugliness would break my camera. It was the wooden frame, a dog carrier, two $1.50 bird nets from Ichiban Kan, a boatload of twisty ties, a $1.50 plastic tarp from Daiso (I love Japanese dollar stores!!) and two wooden benches to hold the plywood in place. Before the wooden frame went up, the whole deal was held together by twisty ties and six $1.50 plastic gardening stakes from Daiso. That was especially hideous. You can see a little bit of it in this picture:

I slapped a coat of blue paint on the chicken tractor this afternoon. It's beginning to look pretty nice now, I'll admit.
