I didn’t. The lady wanted 500$ to open it up. We went back to the other vet and she opened it up with a scalpel. She numbed the area, opened it up, and put a medicine shot in it. A whole bunch of dirt came out with a thick solid piece of kernel. She was sent home with some more pain medicine and is relaxing now. The doctor only wanted to open up the main swelling part because it would be painful to open her up in bother areas. So if that part of the swelling doesn’t go down in a week or two, she will cut that part open too. It's up to you, but I wouldn't go for the surgery myself.
She is a leghorn and about 3-4 years old. The bumblefoot swelled up as a lump one day inbetween her toes. We took her to a vet as soon as we noticed , the doctor says she opened it up with a hole punch and cleaned it out on the bottom but then it swelled up again. She has been going to another doctor for a few weeks now and the doctor gave us some pain meds and cephalexin. She has been on the med for weeks and it’s not getting better. Every time we go she pokes holes into it but won’t cut it open because she says she can’t without putting her on anesthesia but I can’t do that because I have read that could kill her. This bird is a beloved family pet and we really don’t want to lose her. She has had the bumble foot for about 2-3 months but every time someone pokes it, it swells right back up.
can someone please help on how to get her better?
I take it because of the big kernel, it was bumblefoot after all? I swear for such a busy animal hospital, that doctor was a kooky. She said, “I know for a fact that this is not bumblefoot”.
Give this medicine a try, it should really help.I take it because of the big kernel, it was bumblefoot after all? I swear for such a busy animal hospital, that doctor was a kooky. She said, “I know for a fact that this is not bumblefoot”.
I took the scab off and there was all little gunk still and pus. I dug out what I could without making her bleed a lot (which was very little). I soaked it in epsom salt water, put vetracyn and hydrogen peroxide in the wound.Give this medicine a try, it should really help.
I was CNN looking at my Brahma today and she has a red line going down her whole leg. It looks like it’s reddish pink and really dry. I noticed it a few days ago but thought the chickens were picking at her because I she is the sweetest. We are going to get her the vet on Sunday because that’s when she is in next. I know she has slight swelling of bumblefoot on the bottom of her foot but the bumblefoot shouldn’t be causing the rash that is on a different part of her leg, right? I don’t have a pic and can’t really get one right now. God I hope that bumblefoot hasn’t gotten to the bone. Persephone is the sweetest bird you will ever meet.Soak her foot in a warm epson salt bath for a minimum of 10 minutes to help soften the skin. Pry off the scab which should look like a brown/black dot on the underside of the foot. Try and squeeze out any pus or gunk there might be in the wound. Once that is done apply some Neosporin or other non-medicated wound cream over the area where you pried off the scab. Try and do this every 2-3 days and keep the wound nice and clean.
