My chicken story. Part 2. :-)

LUCKY!!! I'm so jealous of you country people... That's been my lifelong dream! When I grow up, I'm going to have chickens, ducks, emus, alpacas, sheep, goats, guineas, and HORSES! I'm starting vaulting this spring, I think. I really hope that they'll pretty much just start me out with bareback stuff on a walking horse or how to fall off/dismount without killing myself. I'm kind of that type of person.

Thanks. He's not mine (fortunately). He's just a lesson horse I rode in a show (you can kinda see me at 10 years old sitting on the saddle). He's adorable... but pure evil. During the pleasure part of the show (where the judges judge based on the horse attitude and obedience) he tried to bite a chubby little paint mare named Coco.
roll.png
The ranch sold him, but the new owners hated him so much they gave him back. Luckily, though, the ranch eventually found a home for the little devil

And I'm not from the country. I WANT to be, but I live in a little suburban town that only allows 6 chickens

Equinehugger3, it's not too hard to ride a horse. Nothing to worry about, since I'm sure they won't start you out with a horse like Hobbs (horse in the picture). And they'll probably start you out in a saddle, since bareback trotting can be slippery. Yes, I fell off of my leased mare (at that time). Twice. So did my friend, though

I've been riding for 5 years, LOL! I've only riden bareback twice though, because all of the places I rode at were complete pure western places, and my lease horse is like 21 years old. He's great though! He's such a sweetie! They let me ride their other horses, which include awesome athletes and real young ones. Their 16 year old goes around the world and country to polocrosse tournaments.
love.gif
It looks kinda scary though! LOL! I love riding Jake, my lease horse, a lot though... I feel so bad when I don't! He still has tons of energy, and he gets this sad innocent look whenever I take out another horse a couple days in a row...
lol.png
But when I take him out riding, he acts like he wants to go home and eat. He's so funny!
lol.png
He's just in it for the treats...

I'm just excited to start vaulting! I'm not a flexible or brave enough to do gymnastics on like beam and stuff, but I think this is a good way to combine me wanting to do something somewhat like that, and my love for horses! I love findin other horse freaks on BYC!!!

I've only been riding for 3 years. You beat me! I've leased 3 horses: Zoe (nice ride but she always acted PO'd to other horses), Viva (Zoe's BFF, a lot nicer and a great horse. I fell off of her riding bareback), and Tex (used for beginners, but super sweet. Once when I was sad he nuzzled me then went and lined up his friends to say hi to me when I put him back in the pasture).

I agree, polo does look scary
hide.gif
What's their secret? Do they tie themselves to the saddles or something? There's not even support on those saddles! They'd be better off with good old western saddles.

I know right! They had a practice in their field when I was going out into the pasture next to it to get Jake, and I was like WOW! I mean, they're like leaning out of the saddle, going FULL speed, with no hands! My jaw completely dropped, and I was just standing there watching. It was insane! LOL! I'm just pretty much a trail rider, and the most daring thing I've ever done is with speed.
smile.png
That's probably why I wanna start vaulting... I can't wait!

If my mom lets me... She's worried about my safety... Well, I have to say I don't really blame her! I've contused my elbow, broken my wrist, contused my knee, and sprained numerous wrists. I'm a pretty accident prone person, obviously. On the last day of school last year, my friend came with me to see Jake. We decided to go to the state park across the street. Penny, the buff girlie of the group, (who I was riding) must have smelled something weird, because she bolted with me. I lost my stirrups, and ended up tumbling onto my wrist and knee. I was wearing a helmet, so I just bumped my head a little (so that explains it! LOL), but I remember seeing her backside running away and thinking "You should have rolled on your shoulder or tried to turn her in a circle instead of trying to stop her and screaming when you were falling!" Ah, well, I guess we learn from our mistakes.

Horses can be unexpected. Once I was riding Tex around the polo field (which is really just a little field, since there are no polo players at the ranch), and he was acting fast and skittish. Tex is a beginner horse, he's NEVER fast or skittish. Then, suddenly, he started bucking. I'd been on bucking horses before- I even got knocked in the chin by an evil little Appaloosa names Freckles when he bucked- but with Tex it was different. Maybe because my boot came out of the stirrup. But it's pretty rare for a nice, non-spook horse to get scared, though. Did you pass any water while riding Penny? Sometimes horses spook at water, even just a trickle, because their eyes can't tell how deep the water is. For all they know, it could be a bottomless pit

OMG! I'm SO dumb! I never thought of that... We were riding past a LAKE!!! I really want to kick myself now. I've been bucked off before too... I had just taken my 7yo brother up on Jake, and I went behind him. He just started to buck, and we fell off. My poor brother was fine, but he hasn't ever ridden since. I'm kind of afraid that he was scarred for life, and I felt terrible, and I still do. I contused my elbow that time. Horses can defiantly be reallll unexpected...

I love them though. What isn't to love?
