My creepy Schwans man....am I just overreacting?

I am afraid this may be the best idea yet!!!!!

I agree....we do try to ignore our instincts too much in the sake of politeness. Funny thing is, I constantly teach my kids just the opposite. Guess I need to practice what I preach.

There ya go!

this reminds me of a joke about redneck security system. put a pair of big boots, a big dog bowl and a copy of guns and ammo on your porch.

But seriously, if your afraid of retaliation just dont answer the door. I know about the time my guy comes, just dont be home. LIke you said, they get someone new every couple months and it doesnt sound like this guy will be around long. Maybe mention it to the other neighbor too.

You know, it's always nice to have a dog, or two, or three... as back-up.

I have a 110 lb pyrenees mix here with a bark that shakes the walls.

Do you have a dog? If you don't, maybe it's something to consider.

Welllllllll.........I suppose you could say I have two dogs. Sorta.

I have a cute bassett mix who loves EVERYONE!!! The world is her friend. I also have a chihuahua mix that is about the size of my foot. She wouldn't stop bouncing up and down long enough squealing "HI I AM BELLA, WHO ARE YOU?????????" long enough to recognize a "bad guy" even if she could do something about it. *sigh* I looked at this beautiful bulldog mix at an adoption day thing today. She was big, had jaws like a steel trap, and kissed me. I should have brought the little lady home.

Yes, the bark usually is the best defence anyway.

However, Bella (the chihuahua mix) sounds like someone is murdering a rubber chicken when she barks and Taffy (the basset mix) is mixed with some other type of hound and all she does is the "bowrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" thing. LOL Not very intimidating I am afraid.

Better than nothing! As long as they aren't so old that they are deaf they'll at least bark if they here someone trying to come in. Just the barking sound would make someone think.

My pyr mix can seem awfully fierce when he barks, but the real story? Don't know if he would ever bite a human unless it was life or death. I still feel safer with him sleeping in the house.

Bella is still practically a puppy and Taffy is probably about 6 or so....not sure since she was already grown when I rescued her. So both are still alert and active. Taffy likes to hang out with her best friend (the neighbors lab mix) when it isn't really cold though and refuses to sleep in the house.

Get a Shepard -get the female runt of the litter. They're usually very nice natured, very affectionate. When she misbehaves I need only say her name and she knows she's done wrong. But she will protect you- 80+lbs of canine isn't something people ignore.

I use to work nights and I'd come home park in the street, my wife would be outside reading on the porch with the dog. As soon as I'd pull up the dog would get up and stand between me and my wife- haunches up till she recognized me.

First time I heard her bark was just after I threatened to sick (perfectly on cue) her on people that wouldn't leave my doorstep trying to sell me stuff (might have even been Schwans, I don't remember). She was almost a year old.

Never put much into training her either she knows our yard and will even herd the kids if given the chance. Heck, she's smarter than half the people I know (not sure if I'm insulting her or the people....).

<edit> might I add that at night she sleeps in three places. Right in front of the front door (or on the couch next to it---bad dog), in the hall between the kids rooms, or right in front our bedroom door. Without training she's set up her own sentry points.

Just stop doing business with them. The guy has already written you off, three calls and no order. He has gotten the idea. If he calls again, just tell him you can't afford the merchandise, that gets rid of salesmen real fast.
