My D'uccles are gone killed last night

I wouldn't take the dog to a shelter. If somebody adopts the dog not knowing it's history for killing anything that moves. That could cause heart ache like what you are experiencing now. If the shelter test the dog and find out it likes to kill they will likely put it down anyway.

So Sorry to hear about your troubles! My in-laws lived in GA for a while. They have draft horses, and one day one of the neighbors pittbulls came down into the barn while they were there. It attacked both horses that they had out to be groomed - jumped up and latched onto their necks! The horses wound up having to get loads of stitches, but everybody was alright. They called the police who came out, and the animal control officer came and found the dog. It was a fighting dog

... Do you think it could be the same situation with this dog? If so, you could really take care of your problem... Otherwise, I'd definitely take things into your own hands as the police said to. Good Luck!

I'd be sure to call the Sheriff's office and let them know about the cats also. They need to know how dangerous this dog is. This dog wasn't out for just a midnight snack (your chickens)... it was out to kill something! Next time it might be a child this animal attacks... or you!

Neighbor reluctantly gave me 350.00 for the chickens, broken pottery, plants, cats, wire because I was so ticked that I was going to sign a warrant on him in the morning. I told him if I saw his dog or any other dog on my property they will leave the property with lead poisoning. I bought a 30-30 today. The sheriff also made note of the dog and if caught running loose it will be considered a vicious animal and destroyed.

Thanks pamperedpoultry. I have 13 chicks from them right now with an old mix breed broody hen. She hatched 10 and I three. They are nowhere tame like the parents though. Maybe in time. I swear I've threatened to put them in bird cages and keep indoors all day lol.

Actually Gaffney right next to you. The welded wire it seemed to bite down on the individual wires and bent a hole while it pulled the welds apart. The hardware cloth is just twisted with a large gaping hole in the middle. It was cheapo welded wire from Lowes.

Animal Control set out a large trap today if we do not shoot (night attacks). If it happens by and gets into the trap I'll take it to an animal shelter somewhere in NC.

Oh man what a drag I went to check on the plants in the garden and found my barn cat and her kitten also dead. Looked to have been squeezed to death. I am upset all over again. I warned this man and called the cops on this dog over and over. This is BS!

That is freakin horrible. That dog needs to go, obviously the owners cant keep up with their dog that seems to be dangerous. The way I look at it if it is attacking my animals it is a threat to me and everyone else. Arm yourself, protection!

d'Uccles tame fairly easily, but if mama broody isn't nice to you then I'd pull the babise & hand-raise them.

They go through their I'm-so-freaked-out-by-the-big-hand thing as 'teens', but then they settle right down and are sweet as can be. And I joke that millies work for bread!! Mine dearly love those treats!!

Thats good news, Most people have to go though a bunch of legal BS to their money it they get at all. When a dog killed over 50 of my birds I got nothing for it. I don't think you will have much more trouble from the dog between your 30-30 and the Sheriff, he's a dead dog walking.
