My First Egg Is "Hard Boiled"!?!?

You're being punked!

Your hens? NONE of them should be laying such a dark egg, much less soft boiled!

Your sig line:
"Newlywed City Farmer Chicken-mama to 1 Buff Orpington (Shirley), 2 Black Australorps (Gertrude & Matilda), 1 SLW (Henrietta), & 1 GLW (Adelaide)."

I have a friend that raised chickens as a kid. His wife wanted to get some a few years ago and he said "ok". 15 hatchery chicks arrive and he kept asking her what breed she ordered, well she didn't know anything other than "the ones that lay eggs"!!

5 months later she was traveling for work when they started laying. He boiled up the first dozen over a couple of days. When she got home she was soo excited and told him she was going to bake a cake with them. She cracked them open one at a time to discover they were all solid!! She couldn't understand what happened and asked her husband. He said "well ive been asking you for 5 months now, what kind you ordered. You obviously bought the HARD egg layers and not the SOFT egg layers!"

She was just about in tears because she didnt want to get rid of them and she didnt want to wait another 5 months for the "SOFT egg layers" to grow.

When he finally came clean, it was 3 days before she spoke to him again!!

@Me and My Peeps: Ummm... that didn't sound very nice. Still funny though.

Mebbe, when she found out....she should've gone ahead and baked that cake anyway....

@Henderson: do you have any neighbours, recent visitors, etc. that would've played this prank on you?

I called my sister and asked if either she or her fiance had done this and she said she swears "NO!".
My husband is adamant that he did not do this! And he's actually getting a little peeved that I've now asked him 4 times

We have had no other backyard visitors....

Is it possible that she just has a fever and it was in there too long before she laid it??? I am SO confused!!

This is right after I found it. It had some dirt clumps on it when I found it also which makes me think it wasn't a joke. AND it was just outside the nest box where I have wooden eggs inside to show the hens (and jokers) where to lay an egg. Do you think a joker could really know to put it outside the nest box and put dirt clumps on it just to make it seem less obvious????
