My First Egg Is "Hard Boiled"!?!?

you dont have a heat lamp or something in the hen house do you or a light that would have directed heat at the egg that would have caused enough heat to start cooking it? middle of summer we had hen lay eggs in a black tool box we had removed from truck, dont know how many days the eggs had been in there, not more than a week and they looked half cooked when we broke them, but sitting in the sun the black tool box would be too hot to sit on so i am sure it was like a oven inside during the day.

and this could make sense even if, when she found the egg, it wasn't anywhere near this heat source. My hens lay their eggs in the nest boxes, but I find them all over the coop. I think they play with them. One day one I saw one in the nest box and 5 minutes later it was in the middle of the coop...so I put it back in the box only to find it back in the middle 5 minutes later...I put it back in the box again...and 5 minutes late it was back in the middle. I finally took it for fear it would be broken (I was trying to see if one of the hens was being broody).

So you could be on to something...

I know...

she should create a another cooked egg (secretly), and tell everyone that "she found another one!!" and see what they say and watch their faces.

It just might work.

and then if she does find the culprit...revenge is sweet with uncooked eggs...if you know what I mean.

Uhm, reread the post. It's southern California, they don't use heat lamps there very often.

I like this idea and would take it and run with it. I mean go all out. Dye some eggs and add spots and stuff. Take them and save them up and suggest that stuff like this is going to be expensive to take care of "according to the vet" who says they have (insert some official sounding term here) and that ... ooooh or go the other way and get all excited that "these birds are gonna make ya crazy rich" because you have a strain that is perfect for the homeowner on the run, making premade hardboiled eggs, etc" Lay it on kinda thick if you have to. The culprit might be flushed out that way. I dunno how that would work in your stuation. Here the fam wouldn't even bat an eyelash...they expect crazy from me...

I like the idea that they might have cooked sitting there, like the egg in the black box in the truck. Could something like that have happened to your egg maybe? Maybe sat in the sunlight just long enough through a coop window to cook a little? I dunno. I don't have any guess as to what could have caused that otherwise. I've never had it happen with any of my hens eggs. Good luck figuring it out, and please share if you do figure it out.

You Guys...I am NOT in the least joking around....

I JUST found these two 5 minutes ago, have already looked out there twice this morning and there was nothing...then this. NO ONE has been here today except me and my husband, both in the kitchen studying all morning.

I am SERIOUSLY freaking out!!!

AND TO MAKE IT WORSE...NOW I HAVE BOTH OF MY AUSTRALORPS LAYING AND THEY BOTH ARE FREAKING HARD IN THE MIDDLE!!!! AAAAAHHHHHH....
I'm trying to upload a movie of what happened (my husband recorded it) on youtube. I will put the link when it's finished processing.

What I went out to find...
