My flock has several sicknesses.... Please help!

I think you should use whatever is easiest for you. For me, it would be the Tylan, but not sure what dose I would use.

According to the 7th Edition of Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, the Cephalexin doses for birds are between 35-100mg per kg, by mouth (not in drinking water) every 6 hours. How's your math?
Right now with all this stuff on my mind combined with exhaustion, it's lousey! And I absolutely do not know kg conversions or mg conversions. It took me and mom forever to figure out what 400mg converted to tsp per gal. and still don't know if we got it right. We figured out 400mg=2 tsp per. gal. So I was mainly just pouring some in a cough med. measure, sprinkle in a very little bit extra, and drawing that up in syringe (w/o needle). The reason I did that was because I also mixed in the gal of water 1 1/2 tsp electrolytes and 4 TBsp Apple Cider Vinegar. No where near exact measurements for antibiotics, but I was afraid of overdose on antibiotic. So he is 3 lb 12 oz and she is 2 lb 11 oz aprox.

Harry Rooster,

I don't know if this helps, but I just found an old prescription bottle of Cephalexin 250mg, it was for a young peacock that weighed probably around 3kg and he got two pills a day for ten days. That was from an Avian Vet and he was being treated for a throat infection.

He is 1.7kg and she is 1.22kg if I did the conversion right.

From the same source, tylosin ( Tylan) is 10-40mg/kg IM (shot in muscle) 2 or 3 times a day.
I wasn't going to inject. Someone on here said they gave it by mouth the Tylan 50 @ 2cc once at bedtime for 3 days, but another said 1cc, didn't specify their weight. I know this is dumb, but I'm more of a "right brain " person, you know, language, art, music, creativity ect... so what is kg? Is that same as lb? Not educated on any of these other kinds of measurements, don't know anything about "meters" or "liters" either. Sorry so dumb about these things, my "expertise" is whole other area, and I would probably faint at trying to inject something, I don't even get shots when I get sick, (rarely) cause I hate them.

This Cephalexin is the same as human kind? I have 3 bottles given to me for abcessed tooth 500mg ea capsule. Capsule may be a problem to figure out the dose, you think? You know since you wouldn't be able to exactly cut it in half or quarters. And I probably should stop the Tetracycline before changing meds. I'm just wondering if it will create a problem switching up meds. one right after the other, or wait for withdrawl from Tetracycline, seems not a good idea to go even a day without some medicine at this point. Rooster is eating today so he's doing better, don't want to mess that up. The diarreha has completely cleared up in him and her. He is not coughing, but not talking to me either, but is much more alert and paying attention when I talk to him and come in to check on him. Facial swelling has gone down, and he is breathing better, not ratteling or wheezing, just sometimes streches his neck out and gapes like trying to clear throat, every now and then but not a lot. Has not crowed, but probably won't as long as he's inside isolated. She is still ratteling a good bit though and coughing, although not as much, and lazy eye (pupil not looking straight).

Thank you. I will have to be leaving in about 45 min. for church, but I will get back on when I get home around 9:00 to check on things. You may not get a reply before I leave. I'll be on toinght though. BTW, I tried to calculate the dosage by the formula you gave me, and what I did was 250mg twice per day = 500mg daily total divided by 3kg =167mg per kg @ 83.5 mg twice daily per kg. So if my cockerel is 1kg aprox (you said 1.7 but too much more math for me, so I just went aprox.) would it mean he gets 83mg? I don't know, I've already gotten lost in the equation

Maybe I have a touch of A.D.D.????

Not sure if you read my earlier post, draw 10 ml of water up with syringe, empty capsule of cephalexin into a cup, squirt the water on top, mix well and then draw it up into syringe. You now have 10 x 1 ml ( or 1 cc) doses. Just remember to shake well before each administration.
If you have pills grind them up with a mortar & pestle, and mix as above.
" isolate all birds with symptoms " if you don't have the space, put up physical barriers between them. Even a close knit shade cloth between pens will go some way to preventing them from sneezing on each other.
