I would recommend a lightweight run made with PVC conduit. You can see mine on my BYC page entitled "Kycklingar's 4x10 tractor"

we just made one with pvc pipe and it was very easy and inexpensive!​

Well, here are the specs just in case anyone tries to do this themselves:

(1) Rubbermaid Grow With Me doghouse Mine is a medium and measures 2'x3'.

(2) lengths 1 1/4 inch dowel Mine was cut to a 23 1/4" length.

(1) sheet of 1/2" plywood about 23"x17" if you want a separate nesting area.

On my To Do List: Build a droppings tray for under the roost. I think that I can easily keep 2-3 hens. 4 might be too much, what do you all think?

I can't seem to find this on-line anywhere. What are the dimensions when it is at the larger size? Do you think it will be warm enough in winter? In other words is the plastic pretty thick?

It says 'medium' at the bottom so I assume that it comes in other sizes. Perhaps a call to Rubbermaid is in order since this product does seem to be a bit hard to find.

here is mine, in the living room. we can unassemble and take it outside since we didn't glue it yet. it is 6x6, 1/2 inch pipe. for the 't' joints and cross joints dh used a dremel tool to grind out the stops in the middle, so we could slide the pipe through the joint and not have to cut the pipe in half at each joint.
