My hubby is a downer -- he said absolutely NO bantams or silkies..

My husband doesn't like silkies or bantams, either. I have sold ALL my bantams except for my silkies to please him. He tolerates the silkies, but I think he'd really be happy if I sold them, too.

Ok, so-

I have two Buff Minorca chicks now that are going to lay white eggs, born at the end of January. They are indistinguishable from my Buff Orpington chicks, as far as I can see.

They are supposed to be around 7 lb hens I think when they grow up, and lay a nice-sized white egg. They come in black, too. I think they will be a little flighty from what I have read, but still confinable.

Tell your husband it is the cat of the chicken world and it will be your best friend and show him 1435643234567543 pictures make a power point nd a movie. that how i am getting my babies at the end of march!

I can't have any banties either... but only because I only have 1 coop and I have a large BO rooster and I don't want him to hurt them!

I'm going to nitpick here-- as someone involved in the dog show world, I have to tell you that there is NO SUCH THING as a "teacup" dog!!

There are "toy" dogs, and they encompass all of the AKC Toy group. "Mini" dogs I suppose would be like the "Miniature Pinscher" and the "Miniature Poodle". Teacup is a scam term used by back yard breeders to make more money off of pups... usually sickly, underbred runts.

Really? My SIL has 2 beautiful "teacup" poodles and they are happy, healthy and very tiny. They have their own play-pen as they are so small the other dogs might accidentally hurt them. I really hope they aren't just cast-offs and runts... my SIL paid some big bucks for those little pooches. Regardless, they are toooooo adorable.

D

All I can say is you are NOT getting from a quality breeder if they advertise their dogs as "teacup" or "micro-mini" or "imperial". I realize that I might not get a lot of backup here as it is not a "popular" opinion but if you know any "dog people" who show or have a big interest in dogs from a veterinary prospective, they'll tell you the same.

For a man that never requests things, that sure is a random one. :hmm

I mean, my man hardly requests things but asks I don't use chicken heads/feet, so I don't. But, I get his side of that?

What does 'no bantams or silkies' mean? That, as a small child, one violently attacked him and stole his wallet?

I found out we were allowed geese because he had been attacked by them. But..er..we got geese. >_>

haha; prob just because they arent producers like he wants..and we arent raising for show..for production and
food only..

i did say I was going to TSC today..he just kinda smirked and shook his head..lol

My silkies are cold hardy and heat hardy. I just don't let them out if were supposed to get freezing rain or sleet.

Standard Light Brahmas are cold hardy/heat hardy, have pea combs so they shouldn't get frost bitten, and the hens lay large brown eggs. Plus, they are docile.

The silkies I ordered are replacing my need for a little white fluffy dog. DH would never go for the little dog, but a little chicken that lays some tiny eggs...that is ok.

Why did you ask him? I just ordered the ones that I wanted and made sure that i included some egg producers and a couple of breeds that he wanted. It was only fair!

I didnt ask persay; we were just talking and looking at all the breeds and thats what he asked...
like i said in another post; he RARELY tells me I cant do something/get somethign etc..
so ..sigh...

we'll see what happens..TSC prob wont get any anyway lol...and I can't do another "maximum" order from a
hatchery..and those that let me get like 3..are sold out of MOST breeds til forever..

Periodically check mypetchicken.com! They are frequently adjusting their availability dates based on the actual number of fertile eggs! I just changed my order and added 3 silkies for March 21. I believe they have assorted bantams available in March too. They go quickly though.

I seem to be the lone one out but I would never do something behind my husbands back because, like yours, he rarely asks for anything ever. If he requests something, I do it - simply because it clearly means something to him even if I don't know what it is. I'd be pretty sad if I asked him not to do something and he did it anyway. I think it's kind of sad people are telling you not to ask him or telling you to do it anyway.

But I guess I just don't have a relationship where I feel comfortable doing that. Even though he said no geese and we got geese, we got the geese together after a long talk about how they can provide and how they won't bother him. He likes them now, but I wasn't going to just out and buy them. The ducks were the same, but now he looooves Muscovies like I do, so we have dozens, hahaha.

My idea: make him like silkies so he says yes. Go to a local farmer selling silkies and other birds and coo over the silkies and be all sad you can't have them and look at them longingly as you leave and say to them, "Don't worry silkies, I'll visit you!!!!"... if you really want him to say yes, make him sad he said no.

Not mad you did it anyway.
