My husband is a meaney :(

A.T. Hagan :

I hope you all who are deceiving your spouses like this will be so understanding when they return the favor with something they want.

Sure, a delicious plate of scrambled eggs for breakfast!

My mom and I had to tell my dad how much money we could make off selling fresh and hatching eggs (we only ten chickens). Especially if we have Marans and EE eggs. If only my dad knew how much decent Marans cost! It took some time and a lot of talking but here we are with fifty chickens.

My future hubby is unfortunately (fortunately?? lol) an enabler, and chicken addict as well. He rolled his eyes when I got my first 5.. and a few months later, and 20+ chickens later.. He's got 10 of our own Serama eggs in the bator, and thinking of what else he's going to get for the bator after we get back from vacation!

Glad I don't have the trouble you guys do. My hubby was raised a city boy, but always liked the idea of the simple life. Well, that is how I was raised have been yearning to get back to it. As long as my endeavors don't cause a financial bind, he is all for it. I got 36 eggs with one week to go. He is excited. Hope it gets better for the rest of you!

We live on a 42 acre family farm and just got our first 6 chickens about 8 weeks ago. My wife was fine with that, but then I had one die and went to a friends to get one replacement. She rode over with me and saw the silver laced polish so we got 2 of those. Then my friend gave me a blue runner duck. Now she is hooked and always looking for more. We currently have 31 eggs in our LG and the other day we picked up a Hova for $10 so need to fill that one up as well.

Then the other day I had a meeting with my co-op agent and he suggested we start a full-blown hatchery!! Great idea I think since we are working our way out of the tobacco growing business and have all these empty tobacoo barns that could become brreding coops...but we'll see

Thank goodness for my hubs to be! He questioned my sanity at first, but came around to the idea of chickens fairly quickly. When we found out our chicks had hatched...only the first two he was so excited that we ran right over to get them, even though the other 4 weren't ready yet. when we were called when the other 4 were ready she mentioned that they had some white leghorns that hatched that I might be interested in also. The other halfs response to that was, well our coop will be plenty big enough for 8, maybe more. lol. Now I think he is more excited than I am. I am a lucky girl!

My hubby is on board w/ the chickens... but I currently own a lovely 7 bicycle refrigerator thanks to his mountain biking mania. The fridge was $826- for anyone who wants to do the math

that he has a healthy (and expensive!) hobby because what I spend on my dog/chickens/garden/self is a drop in the bucket compared to what Mr. mountain bike racer spends... and he is in 7th place for our entire region right now *sigh*, if only he still weighed more than me I could be happy

Well actually.....here's what happemed with me:

I wanted 4 chickens.
He said 'you don't need no stinkin' chickens...'''.
Someone 'dumped' adult chickens on our country road that he rescued.
He built a $1,000.00 coop with an automatic door for his 10 chickens.
My son built me a chicken tractor for Mother's Day-for 4 chickens.
I ordered 11 buff orpingtons thinking I would put the extra 6 with his 10. Ideal included 10 SLW packing peanuts to make a total of 21 chicks. All survived and are thriving.
Three days after my chicks arrived he ordered 70 ( yes seventy) different kinds of pheasant eggs for the
incubator for the aviary....

We don't have an aviary.....
