My little flock!

Morning Rei! I've been thinking about you...I hope everything is going well! :love

Hi Rene! So great to hear from you. I have been doing well. I had my baby a couple weeks ago so that has been keeping me busy.

Chickens are fully laying now which is fantastic! Fresh eggs are the best. Unfortunately, we have lost a few chickens so we are down to 9 now. A fox got one, one was dead when we went to the coop in the morning and the latest one we had to cull because she was not recovering from whatever was making her sick 😔 I might need to replenish and get a few more chicks this spring!

How have you been? I need to wander over to your thread and see all your latest updates!

Good morning & congratulations on your new baby. I was wondering if you'd delivered yet! They do take up a fair amount of your time...💞

So sorry to hear about your chickens...I lost my favorite hen to a hawk. I'm getting 4 new chicks, hopefully in the next couple of weeks. We're going to cull our Silkie roosters and I'm giving one of the Marans roosters to a friend...so I have room for a few more hens.

Life has been pretty busy for us so far this year. We helped our son move his family halfway across the country & we are updating our kitchen. I thought about you as we drove through Montana! Other than that, I've been doing pretty good!

I'm glad that you're back & doing well. Enjoy that baby...they are so much fun...exhausting sometimes, but totally worth it! 💗💗💗

Hi, Rene!

Things seem to be going well! If the weather would cooperate here we might actually see spring sometime soon 😁

I have one chicken not doing very well. This is the second one exhibiting the same symptoms as my Green Queen who had died. Unfortunately, at this point I am suspecting some kind of virus or Mereks. The plan is to send her for a necropsy if she doesn't make it. Its extremely unfortunate as I have been wanting to add to the flock but I dont plan to now with them getting sick 😕

Here she is on the right with her best bud "Blondie".

On a brighter note, I got a nice dark marans egg the other day! I'll have to get a better comparison picute but I was pretty happy about it 😁

I'm so sorry that you have another sick hen! Have you treated for coccidiosis? I truly hope it's not Marek's...I've just learned how bad it really is!🙁

That is a beautiful egg, all of those are beautiful! 💞

I have not treated for coccidiosis. It might be worth a shot! I think you have treated for it before, correct?

They seem to be exhibiting Mereks symptoms. However, a lot of different chicken diseases have many of the same symptoms. It starts with them not laying, comb turning pale, weight loss, stiffness then eventually they can't walk anymore. She eats, drinks and tries to keep up free ranging with the rest but her body is giving out. The Green Queen that died had really green poop too but so far I haven't seen that with this chicken. It's just really strange and I have no clue what is going on!
